A true comment, not rude. If it feels rude to you that is only because you are filing to accept the truth.

I`m still waiting for you to tell me the facts ?

How you get the ISO's of teh preview builds? Those are available despite of the EDSs. So there will be ISOs for the RTM builds as well. The migrants will be allowed to perform clean installs, so they definitely will be allowed to access to ISOs.

Otherwise that clean install tweet will become a false statement; and no responsible person makes a false statement in front of the whole world.

I cannot tell a future fact at the present time, but will not go against the anticipation.

Well see there ya go, now you are making sense, therefore, I told the guy he would have to install 7 or 8.1 again and upgrade again to 10, until iso`s are out that`s all you can do.

And of course I know you can make an iso out of the existing OS. And resetting is not a clean install.

"Otherwise that clean install tweet will become a false statement; and no responsible person makes a false statement in front of the whole world".

Ya, that`s never happened has it ?

Well see there ya go, now you are making sense, therefore, I told the guy he would have to install 7 or 8.1 again and upgrade again to 10, until iso`s are out that`s all you can do.

Worst case imaginary scenario: There will never be official Windows 10 ISO images available for download, so those assembling their computers by themselves have to dig around the Interwebs and PC stores to find first an official Windows 7 or 8.1 for the initial install, in order to be able to get Windows 10 ESD downloaded for the final install.

Do you really think Microsoft is so stupid? That the only way to get / buy their latest OS would be to get an older OS first? Really?

Of course that will not be the case, of course there will ISO images available, at least at Microsoft Store.

You have made it quite clear you will not follow the official information given by Microsoft in Twitter and their emails to consumers because "they don't put money in your pocket". OK, although I personally find it very strange that someone only reads news, tweets and emails from the people / posters / writes who pay him, you could at least try to stay factual and realistic.

If and when you upgrade from Windows 7, 8.1 or an earlier build of Windows 10 using the Windows Update route, upgrading with the ESD file WU downloads for you, you can always create your own ISO. Of course this only works for those who read the instructions even if they are not paid for reading them: ESD to ISO - Create Bootable ISO from Windows 10 ESD File - Windows 10 Forums.

What`s not factual about saying he would have to start over if he didn`t have the W10 install media.

No, they would just go buy Windows 10 off the store shelf, just like we did with XP, Vsta, 7 , 8 , 8.1 etc.

Do you really think Microsoft is so stupid? That the only way to get / buy their latest OS would be to get an older OS first? Really?

That`s exactly what they are doing aren`t they ? But no one said get or buy, You either have it installed (W7 W8.1) and upgrade or you buy it (w10), correct ?

You have made it quite clear you will not follow the official information given by Microsoft in Twitter and their emails to consumers because "they don't put money in your pocket". OK, although I personally find it very strange that someone only reads news, tweets and emails from the people / posters / writes who pay him.

Why is that strange ? :D

I used your tut Kari, to make a W10 iso, and no I wasn`t paid for it ;)

First I don't really see any rudeness to mount to anything.

I see confusion that some how a few tweets is not going to solve.

Surly this close to release date Microsoft knows how Windows 10 will be released for free and paid for. Tweadly dee's and tweadly dumb's is not the way to release the information. Personal emails to certain people also is not a proper method of putting out the proper information to billions of people.

If by chance false information is tweated they will just claim their account was hacked and all will be forgiven.

I will just wait for Microsoft to put the needed information on their site in a professional fashion.

The only thing I know for sure about Windows 10 is if and when I want it I want to be able to just buy it, install it, use it.

I do not want to have to convert this to that and that to this to install it. All that does is give more chances of corruption and a bad install. Except for those that do everything perfect and I'm not one of those.

We shouldn't have to wait for long (I hope) for a proper understanding from Microsoft exactly what is and what isn't.

Just a thought.

When Microsoft puts out the final release I would recommend waiting a while.
Let all the counterfeiters get their free copy and out of Microsoft servers so you can get a uninterrupted download.

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 using Dell re-installation disk (Dell sent me one). I also use Free Macrium reflect backup and restore.
Does anyone know if there will be some sort of media centre program that can be bought separately?
I know that it's not included in Win10 so I'm looking for an alternative.

Failing that I can always stick with Win7...

Vlc some have reported it works to play dvd but I haven't tested it yet. In fact, I am getting ready to try it now. I just have to keep my volume down because it could blow the speakers when using vlc player according to dell.

I use VLC in Win 7 to play DVDs.

I'm really more concerned with Live TV and digital tuner support.

I'm not sure why people mention DVD playback when it comes to discontinuing WMC, it has almost nothing to do with it.

Media Portal doesn't look too bad. :)

I did read reply #62.

But panic, negativism and some other factors (I am not mentioning) may resist you to believe it, still.

Not panicking at all, just asking questions, you can`t believe tweets.

I could care less about Windows 10, and frankly I wish people would stop talking about it here at Windows 7 Forums :)

Boozad read my post, I never said Microsoft would or wouldn't release an iso.

I said a lot that doesn't mean all businesses

However, I had experience myself with a business that didn't know what the left hand was doing. When we brought that to their boards attention we were forced out.

Just think a bit geeks, this is getting really ridiculous. Let's try to summarize the recent posts:

"Will this new OS from Microsoft become available for a clean install, too, or will the only option to get it be to first get a legacy OS and upgrade it trough Windows update?"

Sounds stupid, doesn't it? What OS maker would release a new OS and then only make it available to those who already have an older OS from them?

Thinking, using the brain is of course not obligatory but it is strongly recommended.

Actually, the bolded portion isn't so ridiculous. Having worked in Corporate America all my adult life (until I got fed up six years ago and told my last employer to take a hike), I can assure you the right hand not knowing what the left hand (not mention various other body parts) was doing was NOT an uncommon scenario. Upper management rarely had a clue what was really happening at the lower levels. Also, businesses rarely truly care about their employees and customers, no matter what they claim; their primary concern is for the bottom line and/or their shareholders. For example, car dealers and companies lie to consumers all the time.

I for one I'm tired of guessing what Microsoft is going to do and how.
Kari I understand what you are saying and it does make sense.

Microsoft wants as many copies of Windows 10 out in the world as it can. Microsoft wants numbers of copies not number of dollars at this time. Microsoft does not want Windows 8 numbers with it's new Windows 10.

That makes me think they will have several option on how to get Windows 10 free or paid for.

Now all we need is Microsoft to let us know what those option are and the methods on how to use them. Straight from the Microsoft horses mouth.
Everything else is nothing but speculation and more confusion.

Even though Boozad posted the upgrade matrix, doesn't mean Microsoft will follow it or will even do what Gabriel has confirmed. We have a saying in the U.S. the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing and this happens in a lot businesses.

So basically I'm never to believe anything any American business ever states again, there won't be ISOs available for W10, and you know better than Microsoft regarding the future of the OS deplyoment strategies.

Utterly ridiculous.

Boozad read my post, I never said Microsoft would or wouldn't release an iso.

I did read your post, I just read it again.

Even though Boozad posted the upgrade matrix, doesn't mean Microsoft will follow it or will even do what Gabriel has confirmed.

While you didn't say in so many words that MS won't release an ISO the bolded part above basically says that what Gabe Aul has stated means nothing. So either you mean he's a liar and there may be no ISO, or MS are liars and there will be no ISO, or you're so clever you want to suggest to people that they shouldn't believe what MS (or more to the point Gabe Aul) has told us will happen because, well, you know better.

Stop posting stupid things then saying you didn't say exactly what you did say, just in different words. The bolded part above says Just because MS say there will be an ISO doesn't mean there will be. You have no idea if there will or won't be so why tell people to not believe it?

Actually, the bolded portion isn't so ridiculous. Having worked in Corporate America all my adult life (until I got fed up six years ago and told my last employer to take a hike), I can assure you the right hand not knowing what the left hand (not mention various other body parts) was doing was NOT an uncommon scenario. Upper management rarely had a clue what was really happening at the lower levels. Also, businesses rarely truly care about their employees and customers, no matter what they claim; their primary concern is for the bottom line and/or their shareholders. For example, car dealers and companies lie to consumers all the time.

I understand, I work for a large American company myself and the chasms between my level (the lowest) to lower management, then middle management and finally upper management is shocking. They could make so much more money if the structure was altered. I'd love to show them the finger but they pay me way too well for that.

Having said that, we wouldn't keep the customers that we have happy if we lied to them all of the time. Or any of the time. I agree about some/lots of companies and the left hand/right hand analogy, but I don't see why people have to say 'Hey, Microsoft are bulls*****g you here you know, there will be no ISOs!' just because MS have stated there will be.

Boozard,

I really don't want to disagree with you, I didn't mean to imply that one way or another.

I do agree with Layback bear statement though.

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 using Dell re-installation disk (Dell sent me one). I also use Free Macrium reflect backup and restore.

Frankly, MS has flip-flopped so many times in the past couple of years or so (look at just Win 8.0 and Win 8.1) and kept surprising us with this new thing or the loss of that thing during the Win 10 test period, I find it impssible to trust them. The biggest fear I have, which has been discussed very little, is MS is priming us for forced cloud computing before it is ready for prime time (which I doubt will happen in my lifetime), if only because cloud development was Nadella's baby before he replaced Ballsmore (sic). Frankly, I think MS' controlling shareholders and the Board have been watching too many episodes of CSI and Bones.

It has been discussed quite a lot, I have been participating quite a many of those discussions, and will post the same as I have always posted in those conversations:

Please explain how on earth are you "forced to" or MS is "priming us" to cloud computing? Install with a local account, don't connect to online services like OneDrive, Skype or third party services like Dropbox and so on, how on earth can you call that cloud computing any more than the cloud computing you already do and have done since since over 20 years, beginning of the WWW era?

MS is not forcing anything. They could have removed the local account option but they didn't.
