Hi all:) Maybe you will be able to help me as I've just spend an hour waiting to speak to someone from Microsoft tech dept. and they didn't helped me at all.
I had win7 box ver installed on my PC, I got notification from win update that W10 is ready for me, so I dl it, but I thought to myself that in case something goes wrong I should burn myself DVD from this W10 image. I did it, I downloaded decryption software from MS website, ISO burning tool also from them and I burn DVD from W10.
Funny enough, during the install of W10 something did go wrong and I had to reinstall it from my DVD but this time I’ve chosen to do fresh installation as I've read that MS will permit existing W7 users to do clean install - http://*******/1f1EeXW . At this point W10 asked me for CD key(which I don't have, I only have CD key to my box ver of W7) so I put down the CD key that I had with my box ver of W7 but W10 displayed massage that there is something wrong with the key.
When I called MS the guy told me that as this is the fresh install and not upgrade I will have to pay for a new W10
So what about this MS announcement that they will permit existing W7 users to perform fresh install??
Is there any way I can use the key from W7 which I paid for here?
Is MS contradicting them self on this?

Don't know why MS told you could perform a clean-install because you can NOT. To do that, you must have previously upgraded that PC to Win10. Why? Because, at this point in time, MS is using hardware hashes to activate upgrades to Win10. Thus, once you upgrade a PC, the hardware hash is saved on the MS activation servers and subsequent reinstalls will use the same hardware hash.

Unless you buy an actual copy of Win10, there is no way to enter a product key that works.
