On a road trip and wanted to have Quicken available on my Surface. Worked fine before I left. Then on the road, I wanted to get a player that supported an external compact DVD player. In my search I thought "Real Player" might do the trick. NOPE.
So, I uninstalled Real Player. A little later I tried to load Quicken and got an error message saying MSVCR71.DLL was missing and maybe a reinstall of Quicken would fix the problem. If I had been home, that's what I would have done.
A further scan on the internet stated that Real Player may have removed this file when I uninstalled that program. So I reinstalled Real Player and Quicken is back in business.
I'm now wondering if I could find this DLL file on my Surface and copy it to a different location, then dump Real Player once again, then recopy the DLL file to the correct location so that Quicken would be able to operate. Other than the DLL file, I have absolutely no need for Real Player.
