Windows 10 upgrade without some Win 7 updates

I have had lots of trouble trying to download and install 100s of Win 7 updates, many of these have either failed or cancelled (loads of them) my Belarc Advisor tells me I have no critical updates pending, and the update history tells me these failed etc ones are important or recommended.
Now, the big question is should I try and attempt the Windows 10 free upgrade using the icon or could this be a disaster being as the failed updates are not in place, how would I install the failed ones anyhow.

Hello and welcome Peter now mate do you really want Windows 10? speaking for myself (having tried that "upgrade") and I suspect a lot of others considering the number of threads we get here regarding people having real issues getting back to 7 from 10 I would not bother. If your system is working ok I cannot see any advantage in upgrading.

The updates you are worried about again I don't bother downloading or installing many at all any more because there is a lot of 10 crap included in the ones available.

Let us know what you want to do because the choice is yours and because there are ways of preventing Windows upgrading to 10 happening.

You could try Secunia PSI, it checks for missing security patches and end of life programs.
I prefer PSI 2.0 rather than the newer PSI 3.0.
PSI 2.0 is compatible with Win 7.
PSI 3.0 is compatible with Win 7, Win 8.x, and Win 10.

The short answer is no you don't have to install all the updates if you want to upgrade to Windows 10, You will have to SP1 installed that's it.

I suggest you search the forums on how to backup your OS before the upgrade so you can roll back to Windows 7 if you want. Many forum users recommend macrium reflect to backup your entire drive.

Also when installing Windows 10 I would suggest you use the Windows 10 creation tool to make a USB bootable upgrade instead of using the icon to upgrade.

Hello,
Thank you for coming back to me with the help and advice, I also have a desktop which I did the free upgrade on just a few weeks ago, the Win 7 desktop was playing up and after the Win 10 upgrade it gave it a new lease of life, and I am very pleased with the result.
After studying the advice you have given me I think I will go ahead and upgrade the laptop to Win 10 today GMT without all of the failed updates in place and trust it will be successful with the SP1 in place.

Ok Peter good luck with the 10 hope it goes well for you. It really isn't my cup of tea because of the issues with the updates, privacy, and the aggressive approach that Microsoft have taken with that system.

I am probably going to wait until 7 is no longer supported and then switch most of my machines to Linux based systems.

I don't think it matters about missed updates, it should still do the upgrade. Worst case scenario, download the media creation tool from MS and use that to do the upgrade.
If I were going to upgrade (which is highly unlikely for me), I'd go the MCT route anyway as I don't install any of the Windows 10 updates on any of my Windows 7 systems.

Yea I believe you can download the win-10 iso to your desktop and open it win 7zip and run setup.exe too ?
