Solved Windows 7 64 bit lagging after clean install.

I'm new to this site so bare with me. I'm not computer illiterate, but I haven't experienced every problem in the book. I've looked through a few threads and noticed I'm not the only person experiencing this issue, looks like I'll need help with those links that help give you guys more spec data to help me solve this problem. So here's the scoop on what I have going on, in short I want to play Titanfall but originally had Win 32 bit and found out I needed to have 64 bit, so I went and got that. My computer has had 32 bit for about a couple years with no flaws, lags, or problems. Once I installed 64 bit, the whole system seems to have a serious lag into it, even before I have anything installed other than the OS. I start to install video drivers and windows updates and there is at least a 5 minute delay during the initialization period. Does 64 bit really have this many problems? Should have I just gone with Win8?

Make sure you have a perfect install similar to the one compiled in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Use a free lightweight AV like the one most recommended here, Microsoft Security Essentials.

4gb RAM is right on the border for 64 bit. You can improve performance some now by editing Visual Effects of fading, sliding, dragging intact and selection rectangle from Optimize Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums.

Make sure you've enabled Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates, with reboots, until no more are offered. This delivers drivers Win7 wants and important performance patches they may rely upon.

Otherwise you may be up against the limitations of your processor and RAM. If either is outpacing the other in Performance Monitor or Task Manager graphs, it points toward an upgrade.

You can go over and learn a lot about your system working through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7, in particular the steps for establishing a Clean Boot, reading the logs, utilizing System Resources, etc.

Ok so I have updated my computer specs in my profile, and I have gone through and unchecked most of the power wasted options and increased performance. The computer lag still does exist. For example, when I try to update windows, it will sit at the initializing download/install window for no less than 10 minutes before it actually starts the download or install. Everything from opening a window, clicking on anything, scrolling, tabs, all have a major delay before doing what I've commanded.

Looking at all of this, I think my computer is just too old. I think I am better off buying new upgraded parts instead of having to worry about my performance because of transparency. Haha sorry guys, thought it would be a quicker and less annoying fix than this. I'll mark this solved.

I would not give up until I had done a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is not that same as the install most often done. This time delete all partitions during install, make sure drivers are handled correctly for Win7 and not XPired methods.

Unless you have hardware failing then this should improve what you describe measurably. But the skipped step is often the one needed.
