Windows 7 64 bit on Dell Latitude

I own a Dell Latitude E5500. I don't have any OS CD's and it is running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit so I can add memory to the laptop.

My question concerns installing a new OS on this Dell computer. Can I buy a Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit CD and install it on this computer or, does it have to say Dell. I know that much of what Dell does is proprietary.....Thanks

If it does not say Dell, then they can refuse you support. But you might not get that support anyway, considering that your computer is now obsolete model.

To go from 32-bit to 64-bit, you need to Clean Install - no upgrade path available.

Since the product was originally shipped with Vista, you may want to Clean Re-install Vista 64-bit first, then upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7.

Did the laptop came with Vista or Win 7 pro 32 bits?
Do you have the License Key for the Win 7 pro 32 bits?

To move from Win 7 pro 32 bits to Win 7 pro 64 bits you need a to do a Clean Install

as mentioned previously it needs to be a clean install.

If the comp came with W7 pro it will also auto activate.

You can retrieve the installed Windows 7 key with ShowKeyPlus.

Link is valid for 24 hours. Download it NOW.

It's a HP iso. to make it universal (all versions), use eicfg_removal_utility.zip (attached)
Then burn a DVD or make a USB boot able drive.
