Windows 7 64bit Clean Install FAIL

You shouldn't still have hard drive issues with a new hard drive unless there's a problem with the motherboard, or possibly the RAM. Check your RAM as suggested, but also you might have an issue with the SATA ports. In this case an RMA maybe in order.

OKAY....

SO while in the install menu I hit shift / F10 to diskpart

When I hit clean all I get an error
Diskpart has encountered an error: the request could not be preformed because of a I/O device error

Was this on the new HD or your first 1TB HD ?

This was the new. Prior to install the new 500GB HD I updated the bios to M4A79XTD EVO BIOS 2102 ie latest - Loaded defaults and proceeded the install process to the new drive. At the OS drive selection the Hard drive was there, I selected advanced ->New->whole drive size partition and install.

10 seconds into "copying files" I get what I dubbed "my error" Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selection of installation Error 0X80070057

Download and burn to CD Seatools diagnostics/repair scan. Boot it to run an extended repair scan on the HD with all others unplugged. Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Next open a Command Line on DVD to run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html.

Try cleaning the HD again, create an NTFS Primary partition and mark Active to try install again.

You can also use free Partition Wizard bootable CD. First on Disk tab run HD Surface Scan, then Wipe the HD. Next partition the entire HD NTFS Primary with Win7 target partition marked Active, then rightclick each partition to Check File System. Free Download Magic Partition Manager Software - Partition Wizard Online

No need to DLL Greg and make bootable cds - I have 2 new drives here that came with all that software already on them.....LOL

Running it now.

Let it run until at least 7 passes are completed, or errors are found (whichever comes first). The longer you run it, the better.

In addition to marking Active, I would create a smaller Primary partition than 500gb to try install.

Here's the status for the evening.

Starting on Memtest pass # 7 with no errors to speak of yet.

I plan to start early in the AM and attempt another HD install with the 1TB drive wiped, partitioned to 300gb and active.
I will try to insert Asus' latest AMD SATA RAID/AHCI drivers found here
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

I have an 80GB IDE drive that is a last ditch effort if the 1TB install fails.

This PC is a Christmas gift for my sister from the family....I have to be on the road early afternoon so I have to pull this one together quick :D

Thanks again for the help...

I really Don't think you need to worry about the SATA/RAID drivers during the install.

Win7 finds about 98% of needed drivers during install if you are connected to the internet during install.

With Sata controller [IDE] selected the bios nor the installer will see the HD.

I switched in the 1TB drive with 300GB partition and the install was progressing from copying OS to expanding OS when it failed with "Windows cannot install the required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code:0x8007045D

If HD shows up during install you do not need SATA drivers inserted.

Reset CMOS. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/tp/clearcmos.htm

Set SATA controller to AHCI mode.

Pre-partition using DISKPART or Partition Wizard bootable CD to NTFS Primary 100gb, marked Active.

If install fails, run diagnostics/repair Extended CD scan linked earlier on HD to check it's condition. You said you have this software - has it been run yet?

Next change SATA ports.

Report back on each step.

Do you have any other computer with Win7 on it, from which you can save an image to try applying to HD? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html

What make & model of DVD drive in the other desktop? IDE or SATA ? Do have at leats 1 IDE connector on this new computer?
