I've had this problem with Windows Vista Ultimate 64, Windows 7 64 7077, and Windows 7 64 7100.

Basically, the volume starts out at normal level, then all the sudden it will be real quiet. It stays quiet and no matter what settings I adjust, I cannot get it to play louder again. I would really like to disable all of the volume controls in windows and run Bit Perfect audio....

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
Audio Rig: B&K 7270, Emotiva DMC-1, Polk LSI-25

That amp is putting out nearly 400 wpc (weighing nearly 100lbs O_O) to each speaker... My normal listening volume is -46 db (on my DMC-1)... now I have to put it on -17Db to get the same listening level. Something is wrong, and it's definitely the settings in windows.

I noticed the change immediately while I was listening and accidentally adjusted the bass settings in windows sound settings, the sound level fell instantly, and never returned...

any ideas?

*****Currently working***** Any ideas on the Bit Perfect audio?

The issue I am having is in a way similar, it goes loud and the base starts to distort...very minimal, hardly noticeable on most songs. I am running the 32bit version on a ROG X-Fi MB which uses the SoundMax AD2000

it seems like 90% of the issues can be solved with proper drivers, or different drivers. Now I just start with new drivers each time something isn't perfect

get the driver from the manufacturer, if it says "Microsoft" under company, that's likely the problem. So far, all my problems have been solved by using old drivers, sometimes even old versions from the manufacturer. For example, catalyst 8.2 works better than 9.1 on my old x1900xt.

Sup cokewithvanilla. I also Experienced similar Volume fluctuation issues, it took me a lone while figuring out this problem
. I found out that It's the Audio drivers one installs that cause bass and volume problems.
What I did was, I uninstall my Audio Drivers (IDT High Definition Audio drivers) and Just used the drivers Windows 7 automatically installs (When new hardware is detected), and I just used the "Bass boost" and "Loudness Correction" in the "Sound Card Settings" in "Speaker Properties" for Enhanced Bass and Trebble. Worked like a charm! Now I enjoy 100% A-Grade unaltered, Crystal pure sound.
PS.There is also settings available for 5.1 Surround Sound.

Hope this makes sense! Good Luck.
