Hey guys, Having suffered a house fire last year I'm only now recovered to a point where i can try to restore my old PC. Unfortunately i lost my Win7 disc in the fire as it was in a different room. Anyway I'm hoping to buy a copy of Win 7 but am struggling to do so in the UK as nobody has the disks in stock anymore. My PC is old and i cant afford Win 10 and i hear Win 11 will demand some high end security hardware to even install ^^ So Ive got a new Crucial MX SSD for my old PC. Its a quad core Q6600 CPU and had Win 7 on it before and it ran just fine so am not really interested in upgrading to 10. So anyone know where i can get win 7 ? Any advice in this regard is much appreciated and i welcome any PM concerning win 7 sources !

Thanks guys n gals.

Stay Safe.

Do you have a coa sticker on the old machine?

and had Win 7 on it before

If not, do you still have the hd with win7 installed?

Was it an oem machine that came with win7 pre installed?

If yes to any of the above you might be able to recover the activation.

Otherwise, you could try at your own risk the vendors that Bryan uses. See the blurb at the bottom of his Tech Yes City videos. edit: They used to have win7, but I just checked and they are sold out.

Or you could pick up an old laptop with a coa key on it. You can sometimes find them being thrown away, or in a car boot sale for pennies if they are faulty.

That is a pretty old machine with q6600. I have just removed a 775 mobo with an e8500 and 4gb ram . Not sure what to do with it.

Ever watch the TV show, "The X Files" ? Like they say, "the truth is out there!"
So is Win-7. You just have to look for it.
But the biggest problem with Win-7 is its lack of hardware drivers. That problem is eliminated by just installing Windows 8.1 instead of Win-7. Win 8.1 is also out there, if you look for it.

Good Luck,
TM

The win 7 installation disk isn't very important as you can download it from M$.
The important is the activation key. As you have a custom build PC you can retrieve the key on the current installation. There are many little software to do it, like ShowKeyPlus

Thanks Guys for all your help. I have now successfully installed and booted the PC. Expect more posts about the next batch of problems but for now this can be marked as solved. Big thanks to Simon the Sorcerer.

Windows 7 is still available, if you just look for it.
You won't find it Here!
And you probably won't find it at Microsoft. They abandoned it!

But, I see it all the time, when I check the Internet. LOOK!

Cheers,
TM

Anyone can find any number of Windows 7 offers on the internet, but the internet is a cesspool of scams and criminality. Presumably the OP is looking for a pointer to some safe source - not that I know of one.

So you don't know of one? Poor guy! You have my deepest sympathy. No computer enthusiast should have to go through life without having one good source for software.

PM me, and I'll give you the addy of one I've been using for several years, with never any problems.
