Thank God I´ve found your forum!

I hope, anyone can help me... I´ve installed Windows 7 official Beta on my old Centrino Laptop. So far this works like a charm on my old PC, fast, reliable etc.

But I have one problem: the CPU (Centrino 1,7) always runs at its full frequency of 1.7 Ghz. The fan noise is quite annoying. I already tried Notebook Hardware Control with the matching ACPI set for my Laptop (FSC Amilo 1425) but NHC can´t change the frequency. The energy options doesn´t help either - I can use whatever I want, the frequency stays at 1.7 Ghz and the fan stays noisy. Under XP the processor is reduced to 600 Mhz when not in use (even without NHC), under Windows 7 this doesn´t work. Driver installation worked perfectly, my chipset from Intel (855PM) was properly recognized.

Did I do something wrong? Or are there other drivers? Thanx in advance.

Really I don't know what's the problem.
First thing thats bugs me, is: Can Win Vista change CPU frequency?
Second: Have u tried RMClock? Seems that NHC works for Core Duo (my T2500) but maybe it has problem with older one? You always can check;)

shouldnt 7 automatically underclock your CPU....

thats what the power plans are for....

unless you are using a high performance profile you shouldnt have a problem underclocking your cpu....

wished it worked in 7, SUSE for that matter though
underclocking sadly is not possible - and I tried every mode Windows 7 offers. I´ve read about underclocking with Windows Vista - there the processor should be set to a minimum of 15%. This doesn´t work.

Windows 7 also can´t change the display brightness. Maybe there´s a problem with the ACPI Windows 7 uses. I have a power saving button which underclocks the processor, the GPU and at the same time adjusts the fan-speed. On Windows 7 the fan speed is adjusted - but the processor and the GPU stay at their highest frequency.

Right, thanx. But have You tried a RMClock? Check all options in profiles, then expand it, click Power Saving and check only the first one in "Use P-state transitions" - with the lowest FID. Then enable that power setting in profiles and go to monitoring screen. Raport after that;)

Thank you! This works perfectly. The PC runs at 600 Mhz and doesn´t even feel that much slower, the fan is not disturbing anymore. You guys are great.:)

Nice to hear that RMClock works;) There are 3 other settings there, Max Power, select only highest FID and Perf. on demand - check all of them. Also, you can set OS settings for every of them to match them to system settings - I use "balanced" for Perf. on dem., "High perf." - for Maximal Perf, and "Power Saver" for power saving.

And don't forget to click on a "Rep" button:) THX
