I get this message about 2 minutes after attempting to open a mp3 file:

Yep, that happened to me sometimes, but only when opening some .avi files, i didn`t have any problems with .mp3s

The only thing I see out of those two is simply having to wait for the first item on messenger to finish before being able to do anything in the WLM account like read a new mail or reply to one, start a new one, etc. there.

As far as WMP12 I found that an improvement over WMP 11 when tried on XP while a few problems were seen on one Vista installation now long back in late '08.

Bugs? Not at all! Those were simply annoyances not bugs in the WLM or WMP while the WLM is still not the final version.

Barman58 made an excellent point earlier about submitting anything definite with the MS feedback option or logging onto the blog page to provide feedback there.

This is not an issue I have heard of before but I would check any additional entries you have added to the context menu as one of these could be causing the issue

Oh Many I have right click context menu entries but it not crashing outside this folder and why specifically only in this folder and to name a few context menu entries I have-

1) UniExtract
2)Winrar
3)Avast
4)File2Folder
5)Eraser
6)Better File Renamer
7)Unlocker
8)CDCheck and may be more

All these programs have created right click context menu entries and they all reside in peace.

I would still suspect an addon as the cause of this due to the special nature of the system32 folder and the particular set of NTFS permissions and system protections applied there.

You may want to try the right click in safe mode (without addons) to see if it is reproducible.

For diagnosing this type of issue I have found the Autoruns ulility from Microsoft Sysinternals to be invaluable as it allows you to disable the right click addons interactively (with this type of diagnosis I would recommend a re-boot between each change).

The folder is probably corrupted and causing an error....

If it is for a program, repair install. If it is unimportant, delete it.

More info for my bug:

Bug 1: Sometimes Windows Media Player fails to open. I can see the Windows Media Player process in task manager running but the window just doesn't appear and my files don't play. This applies to any media file being opened (music/video./etc...). This seems to happen after you have played a media and closed media player, then tried to open a media file again. Interestingly logging off and back in doesn't fix the problem. I have to do a system restart to make it work like normal.

I'm pretty sure that this happens only after waking my laptop from sleep. Not everytime but sometimes. I would say 4/10 times, which is high. It happened again just now after waking from sleep, I can't figure out why logging out and back in doesn't fix it, only a reboot does. So here goes another reboot...

Since WMP is often the default player until you make the change to something else and being MS of course what doesn't require a full system restart to refresh itself. WMP relies on backgroind processes just like any other app. Apparently not all of those wake up once you come out of hibernation.

Lol the WMP processes don't wake up on time? Sometimes I wish technology would not try to be so life like! .

I think I remember reading somewhere Microsoft already has some updates ready to ship on 22 Oct, hopefully they will have fixed this bug in one of the updates...

I never put anything into sleep mode or hibernation here but will simply shut everything down for so many hours daily. For portable units the obvious need for that is first conserving battey life while a desktop can left on 24/7.

Unfortunately due to unexpected interruptions on a regular basis I wouldn't want to lose any unsaved work due to the system slipping into sleep mode and ending up seeing programs when awakened again.

By doing things that way I don't seem to run into the problems others are having except with Windows remembering the power plan settings. Every startup or reboot you have to go in and undo the restored to Windows defaults settings over and over here with the 64bit RC. Even with the retail on after next month I'll still have the present RC installation running for a period due to a few programs kind of bonded to the present install.

Windows Media Player 12 seems very buggy to me too. Sometimes for instance it doesn't add my music into the libray,neither i put it manually or automatically in the Music library folder.

With any clean installs of 7 here I direct WMP to a custom folder with several subs for audion or to a separate other folder for video captures. The problem seen with captures is with the vertical hold seem when trying play them back and the top being aquashed down to about 1" in heighth while the normal width for video playback is seen. I believe that a problem with the capture software itself there however.

I can confirm both bugs, and I was part of the official Windows 7 beta program.

I find Windows Media Player will often do this, especially if I click on a media file from the internet, view or listen to it, then close the player and repeat the process.

As for the Windows Live Messenger bug, this mostly happens in conjunction with Firefox and it has definitely been reported.

I still think they should ditch Windows Media Player in favour of the Zune software suite, and move any heavy stuff to Windows Media Center.
I can't fully utilise the Zune store as Microsoft don't know what a 'UK' is, but as a player it works, and looks very nice.

As for Windows Live Essentials, I love the idea, but I was highly dubious when the RC was signed off as RTM without any changes. However, wave 4 shouldn't be too far away and should integrate and work much better with Windows 7.

I have not had any explorer crashes or any of the OP's two bugs and I use windows live messenger.

My PC is 100% running only Microsoft supplied drivers.
Which means I did not have to download or install any drivers for any device in my PC, it was all supplied by the windows install dvd.

This leads me to believe people having crashes is because they installed buggy drivers or software that weren't included with windows, and so not a windows bug.
