Good day everyone!

I did a dual boot installation with my DELL Studio XPS 1640 (with W7 as the original OS) using this tutorial. Everything went fine but when I boot to W7, a message on the lower right screen appears that says "Windows 7 Build 7600 This copy of Windows is not genuine". So I was thinking the dual boot could be the reason of the error. I decided to undo the dual boot. I did this this tutorial first: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2288-operating-system-start-delete-os-list-boot.html, then I deleted the partition where the Vista was, then I merged the extended partition with the primary partition, then I was done. I restarted the computer and then the message still appears that W7 is not genuine. I noticed also everytime I start the computer, black screen with words (like DOS) appears before W7 logo appears.

Help me with this problem please.

Hello Kimoy, and "Welcome to the Seven Forums.". . .:D

First let me ask you where you got your copy of Windows 7. It you bought it on EBay or downloaded it from a torrent site there is a very good chance that it is pirated copy, thus it will always come up as not genuine. Sometimes buying a copy of an OS on line from other then one of the major software vendors or sites like Amazon will bring you a bad copy, and again it could be a pirated copy.

Lets us know so that we can help you further if possible.

If the problem is still present then attempt to repair it using the original disc that came with the computer. Put the disc in and when it gets to the point where it ask you what you want to do, then check repair.

Please let me know what happens. Good Luck.

In connection to this "re-installation" process.. what if the laptop (like mine, Sony VAIO) has a pre-installed Windows 7 Home Basic and without a disc but the program installer of OS is inside the hard disk itself?

If I want to do the same like what happened to him: Installing another OS (like XP for example) and Windows 7 already installed, then problem occured, how can I restore back the OS without re-installing the whole system so it won't affect the rest of the programs already there?

Usually when you buy a new computer/laptop it has a special partition on the hard which contains the backup files for the installed OS, and other applications that came with the computer. Some computers manufactures include a program that allows you to make a hard copy (DVD/CD) of the files on that special partition.

If there is not a program that allows you to copy the files then usually there are specific keystrokes that have to be performed so that you can access the special partition in case you have to perform a reinstallation.

The only problem is the reinstallation will put back on whatever OS (Win 7 Home Basic) that came with the computer.

Hope this helps, and good luck. :)
