"Windows 7 bumps up the Experience Index

After nearly a week of using the pre-beta PDC release of Windows 7, I’m starting to notice the little things. Like this:

Windows 7 Experience Index

image59.png

See that number in the lower right corner? In Windows Vista, the maximum value for any subscore is 5.9. Clearly the scale is now higher, as that 6.3 (solid-state drives are fast) indicates."

If you’re running the pre-beta Windows 7 build, share your Windows Experience Index scores.

Confused... My graphics index rating in Vista (Home Premium) was at least a 3.5... I installed Win7 tonight and it's dropped to a 2.7, yet gaming graphics is still way up at 5.3...
Huh?

Your lowest sub-score determines what your overall is. To me the scores mean very little as its more a 'show-off-too-your-computer-friends' feature.

WEI is nothing but a number. Scores can be easilly edited via XML file modification. Stores like BestBuy or Costco edit these scores to make the computer seem powerful. The scores represent nothing and have no accuracy whatsoever in determining a computer's performance.

These numbers should be disregarded.

My computer gives me a 7.2 in Windows 7 Ultimate and a 6.9 in Windows 7 Professional, a 6.2 in Windows Vista Ultimate and a 5.9 in Windows Vista Home Premium. Just an example of how useless these numbers are.

Well my obsolete systems as the following numbers:

Processor 4.2 (Amd 3500+ Single Core Socket 939 )
Memory 5.5 ( 2 GB Dual Channel GSKILL F1-3200PHU2- Cl2-3-2-5)
Graphics 7.2 ( Asus Ati Raedon 4870 512Mb - Low power profile 500/750)
Gaming 7.2
Disk 5.9 ( VeliRaptor 300 GB )

This is my less obsolete pc which runs flawless (suspend/hibernation +cnq), the other 2 are a mean machine ( xp-m 2500@3200 ) and a ( Amd 64 3000+ Socket 754 ).
