Windows 7 clean install and then update without countless restarts?

I'm about to do a clean install of windows 7 professional 64bit. I hope to avoid going through the endless cycles of updates that are required to get the system current. Usually a clean install would be followed up several rounds of updates via windows update. These require multiple restarts and sometimes update A needs to be downloaded and installed before update B can be applied.

I remember reading that it was possible to manually download and install one update that would take care of most updates in one go. Not sure if this is possible, but I remember reading something about it and bookmarking the website. Unluckily my computer crashed and I had to reinstall my system and I have no idea where I saw that article, nor do I have any idea what any of the technical terms are - that means I wouldn't even know what to type into the search bar if I wanted to use google.

Does any one have an idea of what I'm talking about, or do I need to provide more information? Again, I'm looking to do a clean install and then quick update of windows 7 professional. I think when I install it I won't even have service pack 1.

Help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks for the quick reply. Three restarts is more than acceptable! However, I don't know anything about my license type - I'm guessing retail? Someone at a computer repair shop is going to help me with the install, but due to a language barrier it's not easy to communicate with him.

Hi Hassle,
can you run this tool,
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012

It will tell me what youve got.

>>>OR<<< there should be a sticker on the bottom of a laptop, or the side of your desktop.
DO NOT POST the 5 blocks of letters/numbers.

I only need it so that you/i can get a W7 Pro SP1 install file,

Roy

@ThrashZone

I downloaded those files, turned off windows update and tried to install the files.

The first file KB3020369 seemed to install without any problems. It didn't prompt me to restart, but I did anyway.

However after restarting and attempting to install the second update (KB3125574) I got an error message that said "The update is not applicable to your computer."

Any help with this? Thanks a lot!

EDIT: I should say that I downloaded the files for Windows 7 x64 based systems. I turned off system update as well as disabled both hibernation and sleep. Really have no idea what is wrong with my system and I'm incredibly grateful for any help in resolving this issue.

Hi,
Did you download the 3 updates to a flash drive in advance or did you use the internet and download them from the new install ?
Look at your update history and see what else has been installed so far

But yea the error usually means it's either already installed or wrong bit
Click Start and type in the search box
system information
Click on the suggestion or hit the enter key

You should land on the system summery page
On the top left go to edit and Select all
Then Edit again and Copy

Open a reply here and right click and Paste.

Previously my system had so many problems that I couldn't even download the updates. I used a second computer to download the updates (which I copied to a flash drive) and I've been using that same second computer to use this forum etc. Since bringing my old laptop home I have not used it to connect to the internet, though I am almost sure at the repair shop the guy who was helping me reinstall my system connected to the internet to download some drivers.

Here's what I found according to your instructions:

Hi,
That update was released 10-9-2014 it should of not been installed :/
I believe seeing your request I would start over
As soon as you activate windows disconnect from the internet
Then proceed with manually installing the updates.

Sorry I had to go out today is why I wasn't around.
