Windows 7 crash if external hard disk is connected

Hi,

I have installed win 7 in my new computer, evrything was working perfect while I was using it without any external hard disk.

Now I shutdown the computer just to connect the External HDD, after restarting it windows loads and mouse pointer appears with black screen. after waiting for sometime the blue screen error appears and system restarts.

everything works fine if I remove this external HDD. also if I connect this HDD to another old computer it works smoothly.

I don't understand whether this is a windows problem or hardware problem, please help me and guide what to do.

If you are having a true blue screen then please post the dump file http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/34900-1-novice-how-ask-help-bsod-problem.html

Sometimes programs that deal with disk drives can have issues with ext HDD especially those connected via usb (how is yours connected) an example of this is acronis or partition managers, do you have any such programs installed, if so it may be worth temp removing them to see if it fixes your problem or just post the dump and we can have a look

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The external drive that I have is - Western Digital MyBook 1TB.
I have connected it to USB port.

I will post the dump file as soon as I goto home.
