Windows 7 Default Sevices

That in my eyes is the bottom line if you want to disable a service and, have the technical knowledge to know, what the dependency's are for that service so you can live with the consequences of disabling that particular service. I have about 3 or 4 disables one being human interface, ICS sharing,Media Center extender service, Net TCP sharing,routing and remote access,tablet PC input,Windows Live Mesh, some of these could be by default disabled not sure but I have had others disabled in the past but do not see any reason to do it with W7.

Devils advocate here. What is wrong with a user that never prints or shares files to disable; print spooler, windows media player sharing service, homegroup lister , homegroup provider? Or a user that has a security suite, disable firewall and windows defender?

If you are 100% certain that these services are not needed in other instances, you can disable them. But as I gave the examples earlier, many services are required for other functions which is not always obvious just going by the name of the service.

This 100% certain for me and I would think most others is hard to come by. We don't know how Microsoft designed the inner workings of Windows 7 when it comes to things like Windows services.

Yea for me, the only things that I have changed are; Windows Defended disabled (not needed for me), Windows Update manual (I check and install myself) and Windows Search disabled (I don't search).

I think MSE turned Defender off when I installed MSE.

Not only that, if you check the "dependencies list" it does NOT always show all services that require that service, this situation is actually the norm.

The worse problem I had with services is remembering which one I changed and then a long time goes by and you try and use something in the system and it gives you a problem. Then finally you go ha I remember the services and hopefully before you do something you should not of done to try to fix the problem, so that's why I have a system file called System log I create within documents with notepad on all my systems, so I can go right to notepad and see what I changed or when did the last update or keys etc.
