Hey Guys

I've got this annoying problem with my 64-bit (7100) version. I'll be chilling, and all of a sudden, my desktop, internet and basically everything else will become unresponsive. When you dbl click on anything, it just doesn't do anything. The computer hasn't frozen, it's just like it's hibernating or (i don't know)...

When i click on start, my list (everything) disappears quickly, and you can't click on shut down even. When you click on the internet explorer icon on the taskbar, a window pops up that says:

"Can't open this item

It may have been moved, renamed, or deleted. Do you want to remove ths item? Yes or no"

When you click either yes/no, all the icons on the taskbar disappear.. And it continues to do nothing.

It even happens in Games...But this happens every EVERY 10 minutes... So whatever i'll be doing, it will just stop working.

I've DONE every update, and this issue wasn't from the start, it started like after a few days. I've only installed a couple of programs for eg.. Winamp, Fallout 3, VLC and Mcafee.

To fix this problem temporarily, i have to ctrl+alt+del and log off, which works. When i log back in, everything works temporarily and bugs out again. Restarting also temporarily works...

The only thing that carries on working, (if it's already open) is winamp.

Please could somebody give me any indication of what i could try. Even if you're not sure that it'll work... Anything would be appreciated here.

I've considered rolling back, but i'll wait for answers first.

Thanks, and any help is appreciated :)

Hello my name is Steve, I will be your helper for this evening.

You could try reinstalling Windows 7. Glad to see you filled out your System specs too, that will be helpful.

Howzit again... Thanks for the welcome :)

It's not doing anything wack in safe mode, other than complaining about bad sound drivers, remote desktop stuff and wierd stuff... But no unresponsive effects.

??

To me it sounds like a corrupt install. Though that is just my opinion and I could be completely wrong, did it do this in any other installs of Windows 7?

Probably not, you can try it though. Better to try it first and see if it works.

If it doesn't work though, you could wait until the 1st of July and redownload a copy, or use a friends internet.

No problem, if it continues to have the same issue even after reinstalling (make sure you delete the partition during the reinstall) then please come back and we will help you further. =)

Hey and welcome

I agree completely with DNG and only have one thing to add. Since this is your only win 7 install did the install go without a hitch? Just wondering if your install dvd might have had a problem.

Best of all re-install its always the best solution even if it is a pain in the neck

Good Luck

Ken

I had a similar problem when I'd installed W7 RC on a partiton that had Vista Ult. on it. I had to reformat the partition and reinstall...Voila! no more issues!

It would seem that W7 does not play well with others :)

Its one of the of the cardinal rules, clean install. Another is its the driver, and rtfm.

Glad you working. I like win 7 so much I hate it when someone has a problem that forces them back to vista or xp

I'm having precisely the same problem. I've reformatted & reinstalled twice from two different dvd drives. Set BIOS to default. Shuffled the ram around. Shuffled USB devices around. Tried different mice. Moved my PCI cards around. Nothing. It's weird though, cuz everything ran fine for the first week. Now even after reinstall, actually during install itself, the mouse clicks won't do anything for a few seconds to several minutes. It's not a mouse issue because it will highlight items when the pointer gets over them. It just doesn't respond to the clicks.
Very bummed. Love Win7!!! Dreading going back to XP and refuse to install that bloated monstrosity that is Vista. Any solutions anyone might find would make me and several others very happy campers! Please Help!

I'd love to but I only have a copy of 7100 I believe it is and Microsoft isn't offering the download anymore. Getting a copy of it off a torrent makes me a bit nervous, but I guess I could disconnect my data drives. Will the code Microsoft gave me for the 7100 work with a more recent build?

It should work, because it worked for me. I can't guarentee it, although I did swop codes between a 32bit 7100 build and a 64bit 7260 build and it worked... Good luck dude.
