Hi, have a win 7 64 bit, win 7 32 bit and an xp.

Setup work network, no domain, no password, all other attributes to share. no specific permissions.
I can log on, wverything will work, leave and come back and usually 64 bit has lost 32 bit printer (shared). once in a while i see the 32 bit loose the workgroup also. Sleep and hibernate are off, I have monitor turn off.

As an example I have rebooted both win 7 machines and the xp can access both, and neither can access the other win7, 32 bit can see xp?

Diagnose is useless.
What am i doing wrong. setup workgroup, setup sharing.

can anyone explain what is wrong?

All drivers are current on 64 bit.

DAve

zone alarm, the only way I can get this to work is to reset the network workgroup on the 64 bit.
AVG for antivirus sorry

AVG can cause some major problems with sharing on certain machines. This is especially true when using Homegroups but it seems to effect Workgroups also. Zone Alarm can do the same thing. Often times disabling them isn't enough, they usually need to be uninstalled completely.

Going through the steps in the tutorial might help, getting the premissions correct might also help but if that doesn't work go with the uninstall of AVG.

Ok, wnet thru your tutotials, I had already done these.

What I am looking at now is winxp and win 7 32 bit can see the workgroup, can access shared folders/printers from any of the three computers. network is called office.

the win 7 64 bit has a problem accessing any computer or shared device. the network name has been changed to "network"? this is on the task bar. the workgroup name is still office. The win 7 64 bit can access the internet.

What I did yesterday to fix this is change the workgroup under system properties to office, even though is says it still is.

I used the computer all day, came back later tonite to print and not shared printer.........

When I try and diagnose the network card I get this

"your computerappears to be correctly configured, but the device (dns servicer) is not responding? "

If i reboot the win 7 no change I can not see anybody on the network.

So I now configure newtwork to to Office and it works for a while.

I have looked into avg and win 7 networking. I found minimal info on the net, no one complaining, no one offering tips to fix, pretty much no information.

What do you suggest? I will uninstall avg for the time being but I am not hopeful it is the culprit.

Here are my settings for a business network workgroup (not Homegroup).

I can have 12 to 16 computers on network at any one time (XP, 98SE, 2000, Win7 32bit & 64bit)

I run AVG Free version on all computers.

You do have " Turn on Discovery " checked, correct ?
