Hi everyone,

I have a very serious problem, actually idk if it's seriuos or not.
I'm currently using the win7 ultimate 64bit OS for my computer with 4GB RAM installed.
However, it's using more than 40% of the total RAM while it is not running any other programs and applications. It only runs the basic programs needed and kaspersky internet security 2010. I've selected not to boot other unnecessary programs while start up, but it didn't help a bit.

So I'm asking if you guys have any solution for reducing the usage of RAM?

In fact, I've tried to open the Windows Task Manager > Processes (with all processes from all users being shown), and tried to add them up approximately. It should be less than 1GB. Idk if that is reliable or not..

Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Type process explorer in search. You can see exactaly what is using the ram, we can go from there. One thing that you will see that may surprise you is that the A/V is probably using a lot of ram. You can also take the memory diagnostic test, to make sure that there are no problems.

It's normal, happens on all computers I own, it will drop this usage when other applications need the RAM.

I've run the test, however, it hanged on the 21% for a few hours, so i press the Esc button to exit the test, and after that, i check my computer's properties, and i found that i have 4GB RAM installed but only 3GB usable.. that's even worse

I see that you have a 64bit system, but do you have an on-board graphic that uses some of the RAM? For the rest I would not worry. The more RAM your system uses, the faster it will run. Do you want to "save" RAM for a rainy day?
You should though check the startups and see whether some should not be disabled. Those are really RAM parasites.

thx for that.. i have a seperated dedicated graphics card, and i've fixed it already.. it's just some minor problem lol~~
i need RAM coz when i was working with premiere pro and after effects together, it sucks~~ i didnt experience this before, but now they hang so often, does it related to RAM, coz before, only arounde 20% of RAM was being used with nothing running
