I know its not your typical first question but I'm wondering if there's any way to get Windows 7 to see a connected and tethered Windows 6.1 Smartphone to use it as the modem versus the built in PC hardware ?

I need the cell but not the landline now and it would be a great help. Conversely - I cant seem to locate a Smartphone compatible fax software so I can generate a doc on the PC and send it to the cell for faxing.

Well I was just thinking about this myself today. I on the other hand can already tether my sony phone to get me on the net with 3G speeds though t-mobile. I have to fax some papers but I can't find a fax machine around that doesn't charge 1.50 a page after 2.

So can you tether the phone at all? USB or bluetooth? if it was a blackberry or other phone I could help with the basic connection but I have never used a windows phone.

you might want to try a google search for windows 6.1 smartphone forums, you might find an answer that way. oh and the modem phone could help me find your answer too.

A TMobile Dash 3G is a tetherable smartphone and sound just like the Sony. It syncs etc. and should be able to fax with a basic fax program. Like fax a PDF file sort of thing. I'm looking to dump a land line.

Once I have all the documents I will have to give it a try. I was using my blackberry but that was just 2G speeds 114kb/s was top speed, I can get faster then that for free downtown. now I get 460kb/s with 3G. Will be fun to test this fax thing though a cell phone considering I have even played online FPS games online over this link.

Well I tried it but couldn't get any software to see the phone as a fax modem.

Hi, everyone here.

So, is it possible at all?

I've got a brand new Nokia 2735 classic 3G. I can tether it, also can sync it with my PC by means of its specific software Nokia Ovi suite and even I can browse through it as in any other folder with the explorer without any problem. All that via bluetooth.

The problem is that I'm not sure of the remaining process. I think I need to fill the location information tab in the modem configuration and to create and configure a telephonic connection with the specifications of my ISP: country, local code, ISP code, phone number to be dialled, password etc. I've contacted my ISP asking them how to get it and if this is possible but I keep awaiting a response.

Am I right about all that? Do I need additional software installed in my PC or in the phone cell for faxing?

Thanks in advance.
