Hi All

Considering doing a full fresh clean of my system, REFORMAT, but would just like to verify a few things if I may.

I do understand support for this OS is finished and do not have a subscription for ESU, I think it is, to keep receiving updates.

My question being if I do a reformat will, or can, I recoup or download updates prior to end of support through the Windows Update or from Microsoft Update Catalogue.

Thanks in Advance

Roo

Windows update still works, at least to the point where support was ended.
Why a fresh clean install?
Are you aware of a Repair Install/In Place Upgrade?
Excellent video by Brian, Britec Computers, UK, on it -> here

You can use Simplix UpdatePack 7 - MajorGeeks to install updates, it will not provide updates for other Microsoft products, i.e. Office, etc. You will still have to use Win Update for that.

Before you do a clean install of Windows 7 SP1, download and save Simplix UpdatePack 7 20.9.10 with the download link you were provided in the second part of post #2.

After you complete the clean install, run the saved update pack.

It will take about an hour to complete the update process and will restart your computer 3 - 4 times.

When it's finished, Windows 7 SP1 will be up to date through September 2020.

Install the needed device drivers afterwards.

I agree with flavallee

As I indicated, M$ products won't be updated by Simplix

Good idea to obtain any drivers you may need before clean install too, just in case you can't connect with the Net. Made that mistake before!

I keep a backup copy of the current Simplix update pack and a backup copy of the current Windows 7 64-bit drivers for all of my computers.

If it becomes necessary to do a clean re-install of Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit in any of them, I'm good to go.

1. Do a clean install.

2. Run the update pack.

3. Install the needed drivers.

The entire process takes less than 3 hours.

Hello again

Thanks muchly for the prompt replies.

Have downloaded the SIMPLIX update and will use this when I do the job.
Only doing a full Format as its been about 8 yrs since any kind of refresh and have started getting a sound notification, only sound, of something terminating, ie if you unplug a camera or mouse from USB port. I thought it was a faulty mouse but have tried several now and still getting this annoying sound notification, I thought it may have been the USB port itself but still get symptoms after changing to another USB port.

I have reviewed ERROR REPORTS and EVENT LOGS but to be honest I have no idea what I'm looking at or for.

Thanks again

Do you have a virtual Blu-ray/DVD drive installed from such companies like Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120%? Maybe a RAM drive software? If so, that could be where the disconnect beeps are coming from.

no I don't have anything like that

I wonder if he gets the notification if he uses Safely Remove............

Safely Remove Hardware - Add to Desktop Context Menu
The notification sounds at random with absolutely no contact with computer or removal of any peripheral device.

Simplix must be applied over Win 7 SP1

If your current installation files aren't SP1 you should download SP1 or download Win 7 SP1 iso file.
I can give you a link to M$ Win 7 SP1 iso file.

The Toshiba came with Win 7 and it was then updated and now it has SP1.
What we don't know is if the recovery disk already is a Win 7 SP1 or not.

We also don't know what kind of installation or recovery disk you have.
Don't format anything. Factory Recover or a M$ installation will do it.

Most OEM computers like yours has a Factory Recover partition. Normally you can start the Factory recover from BIOS or from running Windows.

Before you begin, make sure you backup all your data.

- Do a Factory recover. It is easy and fast. It will format the C: partition and install a image from the Factory recover partition. You will end with the computer as it came brand new. If it is not SP1 you can download and install it and on the sequence install Simplix. Unfortunately you will also get a lot of outdated and useless (bloatware) programs.

- Make and save a backup of your SLP Win 7 license. Use a M$ installation drive and do a Clean install. It takes longer as you will have to provide some drivers. But it is the cleanest and best installation. Then on the sequence install Simplix.

The question is: How do you intent to reinstall Win 7?

I have burnt the recovery discs when i first purchased the computer so I have the original media and everything on the machine is backed up ie photos docs music, all personal files.
I was just gonna do a clean install and use WINDOWS UPDATE to get back up to date. This was my man query, can i still update using WINDOWS UPDATE. I was assuming the WINDOWS UPDATE will still work for relevant updates up till the end of support stage, Jan 2020.

Thanks again

Yes, if you want.

Thankyou and furthermore
I have gone through installed updates list and there is no update for SP1 so I will assume I purchased it with SP1 and that would be on the recovery media, would this be correct ??

Being a simple man with a moderate knowledge of computers I was just going to do the simplest install possible.

All replies and feedback from all are greatly appreciated.

Do your Win 7 install and then see it SP1 is installed. If not, download it from Microsoft Update Catalog.

Simplix better and is much faster than WU.
WU will install on a release sequence. Many updates has been updated so you will install useless updates.
WU also install a lot of telemetry.
