Hi, I have windows 7 ultimate x64 installed

i7 2600k
16gb ram
gtx 560 ti
avast anti-virus

Custom built computer, ran on a sailor version of ultimate for a long time and had no problems. I recently double installed ultimate x64 with an upgrade dvd, and installing all the driver updates the computer would freeze constantly, sometimes even right after the login window. I installed sp1 successfully but still crashes constantly.
Please help!

My mind reading abilities are a tad slow today.
We truly need far more clues about your problems.

Examples...

*Please fill in your System Specs so that we have some idea about your System there.
See snip below.

View attachment 196381

* What trouble shooting steps have you taken to resolve your problem?

* Have you a System Restore Point PRIOR to the problem presenting that you could roll back to?

*How long have you had this problem for?

* Have you checked in Event Viewer?
Type eventvwr in search.
Go to the Windows Logs > Application / System > in the left hand column.
Note anything in red that relates to the last " freeze / crash".
Please record the event ID,Source Code and Google for more information.

* Have you had any B
SOD's?

sorry about the lack of information, first time user on the forum...
what I ment about the sailor version is pirated version, but now I did a double install with an upgrade dvd with a real serial, everything is activated, sp1 installed and all the drivers are up to date.
I checked all the bios are at default, ran ram check and disk check, they all seems to be fine.
I don't have a system restore point because its a freshly installed windows, and it seems like the computer would freeze more often as I install more drivers and the anti-virus program ( avast ).
I checked the event viewer and there are were 5 errors under application and about 20 under system, but i have not gotten any BSOD yet!

If you do get a BSOD please follow the instructions below...

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I followed the minidump steps but all I get is "windows can't find C:\windows\minidump'. Check spelling and try again."
but I reinstalled windows 7 today again, right now all drivers for all hardware are installed, windows is activated, but haven't done any updates.
as of right now, under event viewer i have the following errors:
Dhcp-Client error eventID 1001
DHCPv6-Client error EventID 1008 error code 0x2
CAPI2 error EventID 4107(48 errors of the same)
Service Control Manager Error EventID 7030 (4 errors, they are "param1 Realtek11nSU", "DES2 Service for Energy Saving.", "Smart TimeLock Service", "SDLService"
Schannel Error EventID 36874 Protocal SSL 3.0 (106 of the same errors)
Schannel Error EventID 36888 "The following fatal alert was generated: 40. The internal error state is 107."

I tried to look them all up but most of the things i found online are just people talking about getting these errors not so much of how to solve them...

Hi
What do you mean "double install"? Is it you made dual boot, reinstall, or overide (your previous OS is squeezed into a folder named "Windows.old")?

There are several reasons that may prevent you from having a DMP file in the usual places.

If you control panel is not configured for small dump you probably will then find it in C:\windows and it will be called MEMORY.dmp. It will overwrite every crash.

Other reasons are if you have UAC turned off, if you have a small page file, or a page file on a different HD than the OS.

Hi
What do you mean "double install"? Is it you made dual boot, reinstall, or overide (your previous OS is squeezed into a folder named "Windows.old")?

all you have to do is clean install with the upgrade dvd then with out activating it run the install again as upgrade. after the second install enter the serial in manually and thats all.

It is unsual, if referring to the clean install. You might have to check any disk physical problem (Bad sectors?)

*I assume you already ruled out the BIOS, drivers, other problems.

I followed option 4 on thread http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31402-clean-install-upgrade-windows-7-version.html
I actually ran a check disk, it went on for 3 hours, i had to step away from the computer at the end of the processess so i didn't catch the result but the system booted backup when i got back. but during the disk check there were 5 parts, there were no errors or bad sectors found in the first 4 steps but i'll run another one tomorrow to see what it says.
how do u check for bios problem? i just set the bios on the motherboard is on default setting and I have updated the drivers for all the hardware installed.

chkdsk will run through 5 different stages and display a notification of each stage as it is being performed:

If it has no bad sectors and only reading time out then it mostly wont crash, only freezes with the HDD light totally busy.

BIOS has it ways annoy us. We leave them as it it is but suddenly need little change. You might try to set back the BIOS to its default first, and try to switch the HDD mode entry between AHCI and IDE. (who knows the drivers screw us up).

Really willing to help, but that is the best I think of and guess.

the bios on the motherboard is set on default. I downloaded the cpu monitor gadget, it has a realtime graph of the cpu's activity and when the computer freezes, both keyboard and mouse function ceases and the graph of the cpu also stops.

Wow.. that is called total freeze. Weird, Pal.
As I am no expert here, how about start making some simple guess.? (based on mine, GIGABYTE GA-UD2HD in the past). You might want to try this three first,

  1. Restart the system with another set of mouse and keyboard. (I have my mouse jammed my PC in the past)
  2. You have 4 memory slots. Tray starting it with single piece of RAM, if it work then swap it one by one on each start.
  3. If you do have a digital voltmeter check the 5V and 12 volts from free socket of PSU.
I think you can do it. Happy guessing. ;)

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

You would have to see if the DES2 service has any dependencies and whether those services are starting. Start Menu -> Type Services into Search programs and files -> right click Services (the one with the blue gears) and click Run as administrator -> Find the DES2 services and right click it -> Click Properties -> Open the dependencies tab -> the first box lists what it depends on.

Also, make sure any of the services it depends on also have services they depend on starting.
