Windows 7 freezes during install after loading files

Hi I am trying to install Windows 7 ultimate with service pack 1 on my old laptop. It will load files from the disc but nothing else. Ive left it for 2 hours, the hdd indicator light flashes very dimly every second after files have loaded. Ive tried going into bios and changing boot priority to from external sources and installing from usb but with that it wont even load files. I know the install disc is ok as put it on desktop.
The laptop is
Asus X58C
2GB ram, 120GB HDD
All other specs are X58C standard

Iknow the graphic card wont run aero but the rest should be enough.

Hi Time

For starters id up your ram 2GB is NOT enough, as you didnt say whether its 32/64 bit.
64 minimum requirement is 3GB

I only plan on installing 32bit. The Windows upgrade assistant says everything is ok except the graphic card wont accept the areo graphics. And that this is not an issue as it would be disabled during install. But I will put more in.

Didn't understand in witch phase you're having problem:
1) Boot your Win 7 installation disk. Go to install - Advanced - delete ALL partitions - create new and proceed.
2) Files are copied to the HDD
3) It reboots and it boot from the HDD

Hi sorry. The laptop is running Xp fine I am trying to install Windows 7. When I put the 7 disc in it says loading files the hdd light flashes brightly then goes to a black screen. The hdd light flashes very dimly I have left it on the screen for over 2 hours.

So you can't boot the win 7 installation disk.
It seems that the hardware isn't compatible with win 7.

If you have win XP on it, I would say it is an old computer.

My suggestion is to install a Linux on it.
- Download - Zorin OS
- lubuntu | lightweight, fast, easier

where did you get the install disc, it could be corrupt.

Its not available via MS if you bought it on Ebay - then its buyer beware

Every time I see someone having trouble trying to install Win 7 Ultimate I think of a Pirate copy sold on the web.

the disc was one I bought from Microsoft a couple of years ago with key to install on desktop build. Its only been used once. I tried installing zorin 06 but screen constantly flashing. Windows assistant says hardware is compatible. Everything works on Windows xp. Ram and hdd have been checked and are ok. The graphics card is Sis m672 integrated and direct x9 so shouldn't be a problem on zorin. I only want a basic safe set up for grandchild to play on at mine.

As it is an original disk (retail or OEM?), try to clean the disk. Wash with detergent from center to the border.
Does it has any scratches?

The disc is clean been kept in case only used once and is retail. That's why I tried zorin I know it's not the windows install disc. And zorin not working proves it. But I don't know how to find the problem I will try anything.
Your help is greatly appreciated

It can be that you have a defective memory or your ODD has dust on the lens.
Fist, do a memory check.

I cleaned the disc tried again still the same. I used same disc and did a clean instal of windows 7 32bit on my pc. No problem.
I used mem test ram is OK no errors
Disc check no errors.

I'm running out of ideas

Checked hdd no errors

Graphics is sis mirage 3 it says in the device manager

Looked online and the graphics driver suite may not compatible with 7 but the card is.
Any suggestions how to sort it please

I made a bootable usb and tried installing via usb. Changed boot priority in bios to external sources. It didn't do anything. Not even load files

How did you do to make the USB installation files?
You must use a program to make the disk boot able.

Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

I contacted Microsoft and was told that its too old and that although the upgrade assistant says it is compatible (other than the integrated graphics not running areo) the hardware is too old to accept 7. So it looks like the bin for the little laptop.

I have an old laptop that I've installed Lubuntu.
Work very well.
