Hello all,

My windows 7 (entire PC) freezing for about 2 minutes when using Firefox (24.0). I have this problem already for few weeks. This mostly happens when opening (clicking on) a website (like hotmail etc...). this can occur anytime during browsing. I tried almost every solution I could find in the Internet like: updating the adblock, updating the rest of the programs, uncheck the option "use hardware acceleration when available" etc... but without any result.

According the AV (ZoneAlarm Security) and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is the computer clean from viruses and malware.

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Anne

I had the same problem and searched the Firefox forums. The suggestion was to deselect the use hardware acceleration in the options. I unchecked the box and have not had the problem since. The problem did come back but when I checked the check mark was back in the box so I unchecked it again and it is fine again. Now I need to find how to keep that box unchecked! It may have come with a Firefox upgrade. Hope this works for you.

Thanks for your reply, I deselected the "use hardware acceleration" in the options and still it is deselected. The trouble is uncheck this option did not solve the problem.

Have you tried the clean start ThrashZone suggested? I have seen many threads about FF freezing PCs, going back several versions, usually with no fixes, IE:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963963?page=1

If a clean start results in the same freezes, try surfing in Safe Mode with Networking and see if it happens there. It's not a great suggestion if the freezes are very random as you loose a lot of functionality in Safe Mode.
