Windows 7 hangs at Welcome screen

I have tried sfc /scannow and have tried a clean boot disabling all start up and services. I have disabled Windows updates and done deep virus and malware scans. I have checked my machine with PC Pitstop. Anything else I can try? Starts in Safe mode okay. But hangs at Welcome screen on Normal boot up.

did you make any changes in your Bios lately? check your raid/ahci settings

No .. how do I do that please?

Since you didn't make any changes there, this will probably not be the cause of your issue.
-unplug all external hardware like printers, flashdrives, mouse etc. see if it boots now
-try to disable your wireless adapter, and see if it boots. if not
-disable (or remove) any antivirus software and try again.

of course reverting to a restore point might solve the problem.
