Solved windows 7 Installation stop at 0% in copying file step...

hello,

i have DELL INSPIRON N5010 i installed windows 7 64bit then installed all driver then i needed to update all driver so i inserted driver pack solution and updated all driver then restart then no boot nothing work

so i formatted :C then tried to install windows 7 64 bit from the same dvd but it stop at 0% in copying file step

notice : -after i booted from dvd it took long time more than usual to appear the choose language option

-after i choosed install it took long time at 0% copying file

-then i restarted and took long time at copying file and now 0% at expanding file


- when i was trying to install it the format button was not active when i choosed :C but now suddenly it is active


i used google and i found that the problem in bios (all solution about flash bios ) and now i ask for help because i do not know what to do

hi indead. welcome to the windows 7 forums.

do you have another computer that you can download the bios to?

once downloaded i would suggest that you boot your laptop to the bios and update the bios using a USB stick with the bios on.

i would also suggest that you browse the dell support pages for information on how to do this. Once completed start your reinstall of win7.

please make sure that you know what you are doing when flashing bios. if you get it wrong you may end up with a dead laptop.

yes i have another one i downloaded the bios as EXE file and i red the instruction

and here is it:

Run the BIOS update utility from DOS environment (Non-Windows users)
1. Copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB key. i wrote the step i hope you tell me is it write ?
2. Power on the system, then Press F12 key and Select "USB Storage Device" and Boot to DOS prompt.
3. Run the file by typing copied file name where the executable is located.
4. After BIOS update finished, system will auto reboot to take effect.

Note 1: You will need to provide a bootable DOS USB key. This executable file does not create the DOS system files.



i think i have to download HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and format USB with FAT32 and choose Create DOS startup diskthen add the exe file and restart and boot from USB right ?

There are so many risks with flashing BIOS that I would try the steps below first to overcome Win7 install problems. Then if indicated by performance it can be flashed from Windows which is safest and doesn''t need to have the BIOS flash utility patched together like that:

Back up your files, unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install:

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failures.

then i got 0 percent done for about 30 min so i stopped it i think that command will wipe the harddisk i think it will take long time
then i started from fisrt
and wrote the same command without FORMAT && ACTIVE EXIT EXIT


then i booted from win7 dvd i am in step

i found only one partition and i think the format command was not completed so i clicked format but the mouse icon was loading for long time so i stopped it again(stupid step) and now try to format from DOS using Acronis disk director
i trying to format it NTFS now it still in progress

before this problem i was able to format faster than now just 3 min now i think it will take more time what is the problem ?




i checked the bios version i found it the same version that i downloaded so if i will flash the bios using same V will that make sense ??

You aborted a full format which might have been needed to quarantine bad sectors of the HD. It does take longer but does a more thorough job than a quick format.

But since you are apparently in a hurry you can do a quick Format from the installer's Drive Options pictured in Steps 7 and 8 of Clean Install Windows 7.

If it will install then cleaning the HD may have been enough but the stall you describe is almost always a bad installer which is why I suggested replacing it with the one provided, not because I thought you didn't have one.

Sometimes on old hardware it just takes a long time to install. If the steps given thus far don't help then I think you need to test the HD and RAM next from Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

i think so

i ignored the format using win7 dvd because it already formatted using the program i told about

so i moved to memory test (i used the dell tool it made test for memory and hard drive , screen etc)

i got message


Error code :0142
Msg: Error code 2000-0142
Msg : Hard drive 0 - self test unsuccessful . status :49
the given error code and message can be used by technical to help diagnose the problem

what must i do ?

i used google and found the dell support say that i must replace the hdd with new one
i think it still working because i am able to open and browse files in that hdd do i need to run bad sector test or repair ?

i think i must run the format fs=ntfs to quarantine bad sectors right ?

Repair install stuck: Copying windows files (0%)

Copying windows files (0%) for two hours.

With ctrl+alt+delete I could start the Task manager, then search under C:/Windows/SysWOW64/cmd.exe
which I started with administrator rights (right mouse click).

Then I typed the commands to stop Windows Update from running:

net stop bits
net stop wuauserv

The system responded immediately and the install went smoothly thereafter.

Thanks for this! I was doing an upgrade from Vista to 7 on a client's PC rather than a repair install, but this did the trick. I just wasted a couple of hours waiting for it to move because it said installation could take several hours to complete.
