Hi All

Since upgrading from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 ultimate, my laptop CPU fan keep spinning all the time in high speed. It seems something triggered the fan to run (eg. CPU temperature is high or something else).

So I have been reading many post in different forums related to "overheated" CPU in windows 7 and Fan related issue.

My Laptop specification as follow

Asus Laptop X80L
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual T2370 1.73GHz; 1.73GHz
RAM: 3GB
Hard Disk: 350GB SATA
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

I upgraded the Hard disk from 250GB to 350GB. I need to pull out the hard disk to see the speed whether 54000rpm or 72000rpm if required.

CPU Fan spin really fast all the time and warm air coming out, I believe the CPU is hot. So I download SpeedFan to check further.

HD0: 53 degree C
Temp1:63 degree C
CORE0: 53 degree C
CORE1: 52 degree C

Task Manager: CPU Usage 1% (very low)

Does anyone know Temp1 means?
Is the temperature above normal? According to SpeedFan it is not, as the Flame icon appear as shown in the attachment.

If the temperature is above the normal then something must triggered to speed up the CPU fan, can we see the threshold setting of CPU Fan in windows 7?

It is quiet interesting issue as I am not running many applications, CPU Load is 1% according to task manager, but the CPU run in high speed and warm air is coming out.

If someone have similar issue, please let me know.

Asus does not have new driver update for Asus X80L :(.

Thank you

Hi raf051888

If my laptop is manufacture by ASUS, should I refer to ASUS for BIOS Update?

Thank you

Hi Pusspa

I am pretty sure there is no Hard Disk indexing anymore. If so I should notice in task manager and the CPU load a bit higher than 1%. The Laptop has been running non stop for 3 days now since I upgraded to windows 7

Thank you

Hi go here and see if you need any new drivers for your machine, just follow the instructions. Download and install what it finds, if anything. Let us know what it finds.

Hopefully it will tell you to update your Chipset drivers.

Other Info
I use a Magnum.
It seems the Temp1 as shown in the screen dump represent the ACPI (power control management) which allow Operating system to control the power distribution to peripherals. Temp1 is shown high at 63 degree C.

Then I found this link
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- x80L and Windows 7

The moderator suggest that "Although they are for K50IN, they can also be used for your X80L"
Let me try to install the ATK ACPI driver first.

Thank you you guys for helping me. I will post an update if I can fix this problem.
