Windows 7 Power Options

Hi,

I have just reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium. I've just been setting up the power options and noticed that there is a setting for Processor Power Management System Cooling at the moment this setting is set to active is this the best setting to leave it on or shall I change it to passive?

Yea the option I'm talking about is under advanced power options. Sorry should have mentioned that.

Hello Wizkid,

This is to control how active your processor fan cooling is. It is to increase the fan speed (active) before slowing (clocking down) the processor, or just slow the processor (passive) when it the processor gets hot.

If you are on a laptop and trying to save as much of the battery as you can, then passive may be best. If you are on a desktop computer or want/need more performance from your processor, then active would be best.

In the power management settings, passive cooling means the computer slows the processor down before it increases the fan speed, so that the temperature of the processor remains within the operational limits. Active cooling means the computer increases the fan speed to try and keep the temperature down, but if it starts to exceed the operational limits,it slows the processor down. As far as I know active uses more power, but I am unsure whether this is important to you. So in short passive slows the processor, active uses the fan.

my computer is on active.
