windows 7 problem

hi all need help.
windows 7 home.
all gone wrong, screen has gone all squre & grey like xp, i cannot get a screensaver on screen or a theme.
laptop wont recognise cd/dvd drive.
possibly more problems, any ideas

but is sisters laptop not at my home
hewlett packard
intel processor
2gb ram
windows 7 home or home premium

Go Start>rightclick Computer>Properties>Advanced Settings>Performance settings>Visual Effects, tick the box Enable Transparent Glass and last box Use Visual Styles... which will enable Win7 aero graphics.

Now rightclick Desktop>Personalize>Choose an Aero Theme then set up a Desktop Background slideshow.

If this doesn't work, type Aero in Start Search box and run the Troubleshooter which will explain why.

Work through these basic troubleshooting steps to uncover and fix any further problems.
