Hi I am having real trouble trying to stream music, video and pictures to my PS3 in W7.

I have my PC & PS3 connected to a BT homehub via cable and can do this fine in Vista.

I have tried opening WMP 12 and selecting > stream > automaticaly allow devices to play my media and have gone in to the more streaming options window, in there I have selected All Networks from the drop down list but it does not show the PS3.

I have the windows firewall disabled and I currently use Comodo Firewall. I have even disbaled Comodo to see if I can get it to work but still no luck.

I tried installing PS3 Media Server and TVersity but they cannot detect the PS3 and likewise teh PS3 cannot detect them.

I am really pulling my hair out now as it has been days and I cant seem to get them to work. I love W7 but streaming to my PS3 is a must....I dont want to go back to using Vista but will have to if I cant get this sorted.

Has anyone else had any luck with this and if so how did they manage to do it?

Any help will be greatfully appriciated :)

Thanks

Edit: After typing I re-read your post and see you mention Tversisty. So I suspect maybe disabling the services I said will help you.

Maybe this is not what you wanted to hear, but if you follow it, you will never use anything else.

Download and install tversity (choose to install the codec pack it asks you to also). It is not very tough to configure at all.

AFTER installing, from start menu search box, type:

services.msc

Then disable the UPnP device host service, and do the same for SSDP Discovery service.

Reboot. You'll really enjoy this I am guessing. It's what I use here on my machines to serve to the PS3.

If you need any help or have questions configuring, let me know. You can customize how the files and folders will show up and display on the PS3 also. Good stuff.

Excellent thanks, I just checked in services and both of those are enabled, maybe they were stopping it from picking up teh PS3. I will install TVeristy and give it a go.
I have TVersity installed on my Vista partition and it worked fine and I didnt have to disale anything...strange.

Thanks again for your help, ill let you know if it works :)

Hmmm well I installed TRversity and disabled those services like you said, rebooted started TRv, went to my PS3 and searched for media server and...nothing...still cant find it. I went into WMP12 and went to sellect stream and now its telling me that media streaming is not turned on

Try temporarily disabling the windows firewall in services, then restarting the tversity server, also in services. If it works, we can make it so tversity is allowed while running.

Also in Tversity, there is a setting to specify that you are serving to a PS3...but this is not a necessity.

You said it works fine in Vista so it's not a router problem. But anyway, UPnP should be enabled if there is a setting for that.

Thanks again...I tried your suggrstions but still no joy :(
No matter what my PC will not detect the PS3 with windows 7. Is there somekind of settings in W7 within home group or anything like? I will admit I am not an expert at networking but I have never had a problem before.
I have my PS3 set on a static IP address, I dont know if this would be an issue as it works in Vista...I really am scratching my head with this one!

What happens if you open a command prompt on the Win7 machine and ping the PS3 static ip address? Is it returned successfully?

Hi again,

Yeah it gets returned fine...so I assume that my PC can detect the PS3? Strange why I cant get it to show up anywhere :(

Alright, if the pings are being returned, we can definitely assume there is connectivity between the machines (Win7 and PS3.)

So I can only think of one thing at all in this situation that would prevent the PS3 from finding the server -

The actual TVersity application does not need to be open ever. That is only used to set up how the server runs.

So in the services page in Windows, make sure the TVersity service is running. If it isn't, start it up.

When you make the TVersity app index your files, if it does not complete successfully for any reason, the service will not start up. That's why a check to see if it is, is good.

My PS3, on the home screen, shows the Win Media Logo under Video, Music etc. So how do i connect? Do i need to use software like the above or is there a more simpler way?

Cheers

Glad you figured it out though. Firewalls always can be so picky!

...

Yes burtie, I found this to be my issue as well. While TVersity was set to be allowed in the firewall, it was set ONLY for Public and NOT "Home/Work(Private)...seemed kind of backwards to me.

After allowing this access in both zones, I've been able to connect via xbox and ps3.

cheers!
