My system just crashes with a shutdown and reboot. The desktop is blank when it comes back up and I have to re-enable the desktop icons.

I had:

Motherboard: Intel DP 45 SG with the latest BIOS (New)
Memory: 4 Gig 1066 MHz DDR2 (New)
CPU: Intel X6800 (New)
Power Supply: Antec 550 (New)
Video: MSI 512MB

My system worked great, but since I was getting my wife a new system I went ahead and upgraded mine to match hers.

I had it upgraded to:

Motherboard: Intel DP 45 SG with the latest BIOS (New)
Memory: 8 Gig 1333 MHz DDR3 (New)
CPU: Intel Q9650 (New)
Power Supply: Antec 650 (New)

They did not have the viedo card on-hand, so I just dropped by a shop on the way home and bought a video card with the same chipset and memory.

Video: ATI Radeon 4890 - 48901GB2

I tried the new ATI drivers and I kept getting this error message.

Could not load file or assembly 'MOM.Implementation, Version=2.0.3470.20910, Culture=neutral, PublicKey Token=90ba9c70f846762e' or one of its dependencies.
The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest.

I was hoping it would help me with the problem that started after adding the new ATI card, my system just shuts down for no reason.

I noticed that this error seems to pop up in my logs poretty much right before the system reboots.

The Multimedia Class Scheduler service entered the running state.

That may just be coincidental.

I also get these errors:

CRITICAL
2009-08-10 17:19:19 The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power
unexpectedly.

I am planning on getting a much larger power supply in hopes that the power fluctuations with the power hungry card might be the problem, but

I am open to anything.

Did you reinstall windows after you upgraded the hardware? If you didn't, unfortunately windows isn't amazing at reconfiguring itself to match your new cpu and motherboard etc.
So I would recommend reinstalling or even repairing your windows installation.

Same question different person: Did you reinstall the OS, or did you attempt to just run the computer without reinstallation? If so, bad idea, the OS, just doesn't like you doing that. Reinstall, and everything should be OK. I know it is a pain, and hopefully you have backed up everything. Good Luck.

Fresh Clean install as if you just finished putting an entirely new case together would sum that up! The infamous "MOM implementation" error has a direct being on the MS NetFramework being trashed with the swapout. Plus your original hardware profile is useless now due to the major hardware changes seen.

Clean install time! Sorry! But the lengthy list of problems are a direct result of all that.

sorry for a daft suggestion as i am on different hw, but with my ati card, for some reason my card keeps getting its clock/ram speed in a twist, and then windows crashes when i open any apps or desktop that use transitions ie the opening of media centre etc

I try using catalyst to reset them but it often fails, but my MB tweeking utility allows me to tame them, then all is ok for ages.

Re-Installed Windows RC 64-bit

Thank you ALL for the replies, wonderful thoughts--I was just resistant to reinstall without cause but I had everything backed up to a USB drive so the reinstall was not tough.

I went through the re-install, and it crashed updating drivers, CHKDSK did some repair, then I decided to reformat the drive to be clean.

I inserted my trusty XP disk and did my one hour reformat--Yes, I know I did not have to do that, but I'm funny that way.

Then I inserted the Windows RC 64-bit disk, Custom Install and removed the partition and recreated it. Kicked the install off. Got all the way through the install and patches. Plugged in my 1 tera-byte drive and the system locked up. I rebooted, with the USB drive plugged in and some drivers installed on login and I rebooted again as instructed. Now I am all patched again, all programs installed, with virus protection of course, and all my icons are back where I want them and my desktop image is setup.

The voltage messages have gone away, so the install did at least achieve that.

I have been stressing the system a bit and it seems to be running happy right now. I will leave enough things running for the next few hour to know for sure that the system is fine and after some sleep I will let you know...

(*Fingers Crossed*)

The reinstall does seem to have fixed everything. I ran the system under a serious load for more than 5 hours and the system was fine when I came back. :D

Thank you all, and thank you Windows 7!

Even if Windows is not auto-adapting to core system changes, I can live with that... Most everything else wroks... :roflmao:

P.S. Yes, that typo was part of the joke...

Good news for sure! I could make an observation however on how long it takes to perform a full format with the XP like an hour or so there while I wipe a drive clean by removing partitions, creating new ones, and even seeing them formatted for the OS that will go on in under 5 minutes!

Instead of booting from a Windows disk I simply boot from a live GParted cd or even a usb key made up with that in mind. It can be a real time saver. At least you now know your hardwares are still good however and 7 is running good so far!

Heavy is the head...

The exact same problem I had before has come back...

I have not added anything or changed anything in the last two days, but the problems did start withint 3 hours of the 8/17 Windows Update -Critical Update - Restore Point that was created.

I am hoping to get my hands on the RTM code soon, we have it at work but I am hoping to do an upgrade from one of my 3 XP licenses I have around collecting dust.

 arggh! Just when things were looking up too!

The one problem I was having with one installation that soon saw a fresh replacement install actually turned out to be the drive it was on. When removing an external sata drive to use internally for testing I would end up over any period of time since that used as the boot drive running into problems with the usual programs while the next second 7 drive would see everything run without problems.

Both drives are in perfect working order while one is the energy saver WD Green Power line found in the external Essential line there while the other now the default host is the typical sata you see for internal use with everything working out well. That could explain the problems you are seeing if the model itself has the lower cache like that one does.

Interesting point...

I do have my backups go to a WD External 1 TB sata drive with power saver features.

I am going to add a NAS backup drive to the LAN, so I'll self the WD USB drive after I install the NAS and see if problems persist...

Thank you...

And the song continues...

I popped in a 1000 watt power supply lastnight and then reformatted and reinstalled.

I copied my base installs from my USB drive, then unplugged the USB drive.

I rebooted and entered my aVast key and begin to install programs. Almost immediately it crash rebooted on me. I thought is might be the ISO recorder or the DVD cracker I was installing so I reinstalled again without the dvd and iso progams at all. No Office. Just the basic adobe mozilla realplayer stuff.

I ran a bunch of videos off websites so I could stress the system a bit I ran a Media Player and a Real Player, copied an ebay window and dropped it into wordpad, and I remote consoled to my work computer.

I turned off the power options and 4 hours later it crashed again.

At this point I think the RTM code is my only hope, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think I will install XP and try to stress this system and see if I can get it to crash.

ARGH... I have hope...

While I thought I was all up-to-date on my patches and drivers...

O to be once thought a prince and now a fool...

I had unplugged the printer and removed my UPS and all kinds of stuff, but it was not helping... So I had started looking for a new motherboard and I ran across drivers...

Apparently they snuck a BIOS release out in June (0118) after the release they put out in May (0116) that I had.

I also found chipset drivers, LAN and audio drivers, specifically for Windows 7. With the BIOS update and without all the other drivers the system still rebooted.

I had to be a little more careful on installs and reboot to make sure nothing conflicted... One install of too many things at once upset it...

I am running alright for now, with no reboots for an hour but we'll have to see if it runs all-day under a heavy load without rebooting... :geek:

It has been taking from mid-install up to about 4 hours before it crashes.

I will say I have two similar systems now, with different motherboard revs. One board rev reboots and the other loses time--so I am inclined to believe in the patches and BIOS updates. Like I have any other choice at this point...

Wish me luck!!! ;)

P.S. I did login once pre-drivers and Windows Media Player was very upset playing fast and the video was large colored blocks....

well dont use mine, it dont like mine...

But just built my brother one with a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz 1333FSB and a ASUS P5KPL SE iG31, ati 3450 gfx card - system mostly a net box - and its wonderful and stable and even sleeps/resumes, something mine wont do!

did allow me to test with my gfx card and ram, so i know that's not the issue with mine, i will have to try pulling cards and seeing if its a card in my system causing my sleep issues (sleeps, but does not turn off the fans, on resume, crashes)

JFYI, my systems is a gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3r, with a q6600 2.40 etc, ati gfx card 3450 or a 4850, but has cards... a ali firewire card and a ix3010 tuner card, 110% stable under load, but no sleep, i think its one of those...

I updated to Catalyst 9.8 (ATI Display Driver) and had the same "MOM.Implementation" error upon boot into Windows. However everything functioned correctly and was a minor annoyance.

I desired to reinstall windows because...It only takes me 14 mins and 40 seconds to be back up and running from a format so why not? :) That solved my issue though!
