Windows 7 RC Build 7100 on Acer Aspire One AOA-150

Wow.

Thats the feeling I got from putting my usb pen drive into my laptop and choosing to boot from that.

I knew the install process on my desktop so I knew what expect however it just blew me away at how quickly this system installed-from start to finish- 18 Minutes on my Acer Aspire One netbook.

Once installed I went through the first stage setup, I had my ethernet cable plugged in and drivers downloaded ready to install, suddenly I notice my resolution being correct. And it then asks me to choose my wireless network and enter the password (no complex security questions) and there you go connected. It then detected my homegroup, told me to input the password (at this point i set it up on my desktop on win7) and it worked straight off.

Then my desktop loaded with full aero effects, quick as if not quicker than the previous XP installation, im quite frankly astounded even when it played the logon chime i almost fell off my chair when i realised every driver had automatically been installed.

Upon checking i would have guessed my resources would be low, it sat idle at 500mb usage on ram, cpu 1-3% usage. Absolutly astounded.

I bow down to Microsoft, they really have come up with an awsome operating system.

Overall i love windows 7, had it on my desktop for almost a week now, it is epic.

Just thought i'd give my input on how it goes on an Acer Aspire One.

(Please note, my acer one comes with a 120Gb HDD, Atom 230 and 1Gb of DDR2 memory)

Yeah i'm really happy running 7260 on my aspire one, the only "problem" i have iis the slightly flaky wireless ( still not sure if its driver related or the card its self) and the problem it self only arises when in bed surfing so I'm 99% sure its the unit over heating.

I really don't see the reason or need to put a cut down version on netbooks other then keeping the retail price of the unit it self down

Yeah there's no need for a cut down version, they should definately keep aero in there too i reckon, everything responds brilliantly as it is on netbooks!

I absolutly LOVE homegroup on win 7, i skipped vista, didnt like it and on xp it could be a bit funny sometimes, certainly not easy to setup for 1st time pc users. Win 7 takes all the pain away, makes it easy and still leaves enough there for advanced users to tweak.

Not had any problems with wireless so far, havent used it much in he past day or two but when i use it more on other networks i'll be sure to look out for issues.

VERY slow boot on Acer Aspire One AOA-150

I've just installed the Win7 RC on my Acer Aspire AOA150, and it all works well, except . . . .

. . . . it's taking over a minute-and-a-half to boot! Does anyone have an answer before I enter a world of pain? The machine spec. is as jcuk's, i.e. 120Gb HDD, Atom 230 and 1Gb of DDR2 memory.

It was shipped as with the Linux Linpus OS, and I installed and configured XP first (largely because I already had a bootable XP memory stick). Running XP, it booted in an acceptable 42 seconds. Apart from the (very, very) slow boot, the performance is good.

HELP!

That is a long time to boot is it ok when once its booted?

The boot time on mine ( same CPU as you both but i've 1.5 gigs of ram and a 300 gig HD) is 50 secs can't see the extra .5 gig making that much of a difference

I agree. I did the same thing on my Lenovo s10 netbook. It came shipped with XP. I tried Ubuntu, Windows XP, and even Vista...

After installing Windows 7, it was like night and day. I love the speed, responsiveness I get from a little netbook running Windows 7. None of my friends believed me when I told them I am running windows 7 on my netbook and it runs better than any OS I have seen, they were quickly proven wrong when I showed them.

HELP!

1) Did you do a clean install or upgrade from XP? If it were upgrade I recommend a clean install.

2) make sure your power options are set to run the CPU at max value at the times you specify. Not sure why this would be different but I could see it taking a long time to boot if the speed stepping is not working correctly and the CPU is stuck at 5% of its max value.

I'm planning on getting an Aspire One A150L. I'd just like to know if its worth putting Windows 7 on it? Also would paying an extra R1000 ($100) for a Samsung NC10 be a better investment.
