While downloading files on either the desktop or in a folder the files size as its being downloaded are not being frequently updated... i have to hit F5 to refresh it to gather its current size.
In Windows XP it refreshed continuosly, in a certain time interwall which was much more frequent than in Windows 7.

Also if i download a video or any file which has an icon preview to it, like a video file or an image, it does not update with its icon until i refresh the desktop.

Are there any place to set the interval to this? Is it a service i have disabled? is it a protocol? Or is there some setting in windows that can be tweaked it?

This is a really common complaint and problem and I'm yet to find a fix I'm happy with. If anyone does know how to get this autorefresh thing sorted then I will be most grateful.

What services have you disabled, and why?

In Win7, all services which don't absolutely need to be running are set on Manual fast triggers.

FWIW, Oli, I am looking also.

Way back when, this was something I addressed often with new installs. It involved changing a registry value, representing the delay of my choice, either manually or via X-Setup, and I cannot find that setting for the life of me.

I am chronologically challenged at this point... ;)
