Hi,

I have been searching online for two days trying to get help with this. I have a Sony Vaio SVE1511P1EW. I am trying to reinstall Windows 7 home premium from USB. It worked once and I then reinstalled backup. Something in my back up is corrupting computer so I tried to reinstall and now laptop is saying cd/dvd driver is missing! I have tried everything I can find and nothing seems to work!

I have tried USB in all four ports, I have tried DVD and they all come up with same message. Clearly my dvd drive is installed correctly as it will recognise the installation disc!

Any help guys?

A proper working Windows 7 dvd/usb will never ask for a cd/dvd driver.

The iso file you used was corrupted or the method you used to put the iso file on the usb stick was fouled up.

Use this, it NEVER fails.

WiNToBootic bootable usb drive windows vista/7/8 - Bootable USB | Bootable USB

If you want to put the iso file on a dvd again, use this free program, it works perfectly. Burn the dvd at no faster then x4 speed.

Free ISO Burner

If all that still fails you have a corrupted iso file.

If you had a retail key, you could download a new iso from here, but only if you have a legitimate retail key.

Microsoft Software Recovery

Thanks for that Addram but none of those options work either!!!

The Microsoft Software Recovery site gives the following message "The product key you entered appears to be for software that was pre-installed on a device. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options."

Right, as I said you need a Retail key, not an OEM key :)

What do you mean the options don`t work ?

You do not have an iso file to work with ?

If not, call Sony, see if they sell Recovery Discs.

I have the retail key but that site is US based and tells me to contact manufacter for some reason.

I have an ISO file and it has been burned to USB via Windows to US download tool. Nothing seems to work for this, I guess it's just time to buy a new laptop though this was is only under 3 years old!

Then I`m sorry, you are not using a retail key.

If you owned a Retail key, then you would own the plastic packaging container and the retail disk that came with it.

Why do you need to buy a new laptop, Recovery discs cost under $40.

You have to google microsoft recovery media from your area, don`t try a US link.

Or just buy an oem copy of Windows 7

Example:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - Operating Systems - Newegg.com
