Windows 7 shutting down on its own

Having a problem with a Lenovo netbook running W7 32 bit. At random times it will simply shut down and power off with no warning, at first it would run for 20 minutes or so but now it does it before the password is entered at the Windows login screen.

Safe Mode works fine.

Here is what I have tried:
Mains power and battery
Safe Mode with networking (works)
Last Known Good Config
System Restore
Startup Repair
Disabling all network adaptors
Disabling anti-virus
Disabling all non-essential startup applications

Nothing had any effect - any other suggestions before I format and re-install?

When did the problem start?

Did you install anything update?

Need more info to help you.

Do you think it could be a hardware issue or overheating?
Also how long has this been happening? was it gradual or sudden?

Problem started last week, no new installs or updates.

Don't think its hardware since it works in safe mode - definitely not heat either.

I can look in the event viewer in safe mode if it would help?

Yes post a screen shot if you can. Is it always around the same length of time this occurs?

Go to the device manager and uninstall the ACPI driver under batteries, and reboot. Windows will automatically re install it. Its a long shot but it couldn't hurt and may fix your issue. I've seen so many issues caused by this driver in laptops relating to power. power issues can cause shutdowns.

Ok, tried uninstalling ACPI drivers, no change.

It fires up - goes through the Windows loading process, the light blue login screen comes up and before the enter password box shows it goes black and simply powers off. Had the machine for about 6 months and it has worked fine up until this happened last week.

Now running in Safe Mode, event viewer (Windows system logs) for the current time (last crash) has this error:

Error 
Event 7001
The Network List Service service depends on the Network Location Awareness service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.

There are a whole bunch of these 'errors' in the event viewer at the time of the crash.

Event 10005
DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service WSearch with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{9E175B6D-F52A-11D8-B9A5-505054503030}

In this case i would run system file checker first. run cmd as administrator, type "sfc /scannow" in the command prompt. if it proceeds to happen, you may want to go into msconfig.exe, go to services, check the "hide all microsoft services check box, and disable all left over services in the list. this is called a clean boot.

If none of these solutions work try system restore, restore the pc from its last good configuration. If this doesn't work reinstall windows

Yes run sfc /scannow

When that is complete. When you have disabled everything in msconfig and that works you will just have to turn one on each time to find which one is causing the problem. If this is the problem.

Don't think core temp will work in safe mode.

Thanks again for the suggestions ... sfc/ scannow now complete: "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

Tried Sys Restore and LKGC, neither worked.

Disabled all non-MS services and re-booted. Still shuts down, only now it doesn't even get to the login screen.

If it is doing it sooner, then that means whatever is causing this is loading sooner because you disabled the other services that load before it. this could be a virus or your antivirus itself. or even something in the task scheduler. Wow this is a very odd. what do you have listed in the task scheduler? could you post a snap shot?

uninstalling the lan driver is a long shot, but i have a funny feeling it would be the next driver issue to look into as well.

You may also want to go back into msconfig.exe and go to boot and select base video.

Getting some progress - went into msconfig and turned off everything.

Re-booted and its been on now for ten minutes ...

Will leave it for an hour, then slowly start turning things back on again to find the culprit.

Will post findings here. Great forum BTW, posted on Tom's and didn't get a single response after two days!

OK .. no joy, back to square one - took its time this time but shut off again.

All non MS services and everything in msconfig startup is off.

if you can get it to stay on long enough you should try to get a report from core temp
