Windows 7 Slow perfermance and explorer.exe crashes

Hi, I am running Windows 7 and recently my computer has been really slow. I would appreciate any help.

Problems:
Everything in general is slow.
Explorer.exe crashing and restarting.
Windows programs such as control panel is very slow.

What I've done:
I have ran SFC.
I have checked for viruses.
I have disabled all non-Microsoft services and start startup items using msconfig.
I have ran the computer in safe mode. In safe mode, everything seems smooth. I am confused as to what the problem is then as I disabled all non-Microsoft services and startup items.

Am I missing anything? Also, what else can I do to find out as to why the computer works during safe boot and not standard boot?

Welcome to Seven Forums

In safe mode, windows adds basic drivers to run the system, where as normally everything you`ve installed to windows has an affect on it`s performance.

Maybe a fresh install is in order

Hi omichan, welcome to the Forum.

Have you checked in Device Manager for any yellow exclamation marks. If so report back with a screen shot of Device Manager. Often similar problems are caused by hardware driver problems & some drivers are not used during Safe Mode operation.

Device Manager is found in Control Panel.
