Hello!

I have installed the Windows 7 RTM and have a pretty annoying problem. Once I start up my computer, Windows 7 runs extremely well: everything works very fast and smoothly. However, if leave my computer on for a while (30 minutes or more), without doing anything, everything becomes pretty sluggish.

I have no idea why this is, I only have Foobar2000 and Firefox open, so I'm not overloading my computer or anything.

My computer is:

Dell Inspiron 1520
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2GHz
2GB RAM

If anyone has any idea as to why this is happening, I'd really appreciate it if you let me know.

Thanks :)

Windows is busy working while you are away. Running several background task, like search index, defraggmentation, taking advantage of the idle period. Give it a minute and it will drop those background task down to nothing.

You could try and change your power plan (power options) from balanced (default) to High Performance and then go into advanced power settings and turn everything off, see if that helps.

You running 32bit or 64? Im a huge firefox fan but it can gobble up memory. Mine right now is at 480MB. Also do you have a page file, and if so how big? Is indexing turned on?, is the WMP sharing service running?

Hi! Thanks for your replies :)

I changed my power plan to high performance, disabled indexing and wmp and checked my pagefile which is 2GB (from what I've read, that seems to be right, seeing that I have 2GB of RAM). Everything seems to be running smoothly again and my trust in windows is regained :P

Thanks again for your replies!
