Hi there,

Thanks in advance!

I have purchased a Sony Viao laptop just a couple of days back. I have windows 7 installed on it.

After buying the machine I installed a few programs on the machine like the F-Secure anti Virus, Google Talk and other messengers and basic Sony Vaio update.

Currently, I am facing some problem with the shut down. It takes almost 15 minutes for the machine to shut down. I have tried to kill all the processes and then shut down and it shuts down fine. I don't know how to give a dump of my running processes and services.
If there is a need for it then you can guide me and I shall respond with the details.

I am very frustrated considering it is a brand new laptop. any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Sid

Can you remember exactly when this started happening?

One thing you can try...

Perform a System Restore to a point before the problem started. At least your only a few days into building your Windows 7 install.

When you're done with the System Restore, don't install everything in one go. Install the programs again one by one and test your PC by shutting it down.

It's a bit of trial and error at this point. But it shouldn't take too long to narrow down your problem.

Thanks for your response!
TBH, I got my laptop exchanged yesterday with a fresh copy of the windows installed on it cause the previous laptop had some hardware issues. The speakers werent working properly.
Anyhow, I installed a few applications just yesterday and noticed in the night that the shutting down was not happening.

Any other suggestions?

Have you tried the System Restore?

Another thing you can try is typing "Event Viewer" into Windows Search.

Click on "Windows Logs" on the left panel, then click on system.

Look for any yellow or red entries and report to us what you find.

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear you have it figured out.

If you need a replacement AV, use the free program Microsoft Security Essentials.

I had the same problem, shutdown was taking 1-2 minutes. I found this elsewhere in this forum:

open REGEDIT and find:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\

and you should see a value:

ClearPageFileAtShutdown (DWord) and set its value to '0'.

Worked for me - shutdown now takes 20 - 30 seconds.
