I was running win 7 ultimate on my machine but was having few problems hence I formatted my c drive and re-installed win 7 ultimate but now it takes so much time in booting. I am running only office 2010 and core digital studio 2010 applications.

My h/w vendor suggests me to format all the partitions and then reinstall windows which I don't think is correct.

Please help me running my machine fast. I have ACER quad core 8300 with 4 GB RAM and C partition is of 349 GB.

thanks,

viplove

You have not specified if you have Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit or 64-Bit, and do you have all your hardware drivers installed with the latest versions?

Also, have you set your page file to System Managed, or Custom? I've seen on many occasions that setting the page file to a custom setting can cause performance degradation.

If your drivers are up-to-date, then run a complete disk check:
  1. right-click C:, select Properties
  2. Click Tools tab
  3. Uner Error Checking click Check Now
  4. Make sure Both options are selected
A bad hard disk can also cause slow performance.

I am running windows 7 ulitmate 32 Bit. Most of the things suggested were tried by me but not much of an improvement is there.

It takes about 2 to 2.5 mins to boot the system which is having 4 GB RAM and Quad core 8300 Processor. My P4 machine with XP(512 Mb RAM) used to boot faster then this

Try opening msconfig/startup and disable all... reboot and see if your speed improves .. if it does, then you know that your issue lies with a program that is loading at startup ... re-enable the programs one by one until you find the offending program... Hope this helps.. ;)

I wouldn't disable all per se. If he only installed Office 2010 then there won't be that many additional programs in his startup.

I want to know what he means by "slow". How long does it take to boot? Is there a problem with performance while within the OS?
