Hello,

I have a problem with win 7 that restart irregularly, without any pattern.
I mean, it can run at a stretch for say, 3-4 hrs & then the screen blacks out & suddenly

restarts, whereas sometimes it just restarts-reach the desktop-& restarts again!

Its totally unpredictable, suddenly the PC restarts.
I hope i'm able to make some sense, sorry, if i don't!.

This has been going on atleast for past one month, but now its just not possible to ignore this as my entire work gets hit badly & I fear i could end up getting some hardware fried in this process.

Pl let me know what other details you would require, to investigate this.

Also, i thought of getting a format/reinstall done but i just don't feel like.
I tried doing a "Startup Repair" from System Recovery Options, as somebody suggested here on the forum, but when i click on the same it says - no errors found!

Kindly help!

hello yip,
sounds more like a bsod problem, please follow the link below and post the required info.

http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

roy

Hi Roy, just to clarify, i don't actually get a blue screen(which i think you get in a BSOD), instead the screen blacks out & restarts.

Anyways, i'm attaching the info as required.

PS: Is there any way to know if this is a hardware issue?(The PC doesn't heats up, i had cleaned the fans recently)

Thanks,
Yip

You are running a Dell Product ID (PID) on a Gigabyte board.
This makes your installation counterfeit.
Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless as it is not known what has been modified to your system.
A counterfeit installation contains heavily modified code which causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason, analyzing counterfeit systems is unreliable and most analysts won't try it.
Code:
OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation
OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free
Registered Owner: Saurabh
Registered Organization:
Product ID: [COLOR="Red"]00426-OEM-8992662-00400[/COLOR] <-- Dell PID on Gigabyte board
Original Install Date: 1/17/2013, 3:25:26 AM
System Boot Time: 6/12/2016, 11:33:48 AM
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.

I recommend to install a genuine copy of Windows.
If, after you have installed a genuine copy of Windows, you still get BSOD's we'll be happy to assist you.

Hey, thanks axe0, for the reply

Can you please clarify "You are running a Dell Product ID (PID) on a Gigabyte board". so you mean the PID is of a copy already installed on a Dell PC?

So the only option is to install a new copy of windows now?
(Sorry, if i might be repeating few things, as i'm trying to get it)

Many thanks again.

Your activation is OEM SLP, OEM SLP is a kind only used for preinstallations with laptops.
The way it works is by activation through the BIOS, the BIOS holds a SLIC table that holds the activation details what makes it possible to install Windows on preinstalled laptops without activation problems.
As the OEM SLP activation is preinstalled in the BIOS by the manufacturer it is bound to 1 motherboard only and cannot be used on any other motherboard regarding if it is the same manufacturer.
The OEM SLP is from Dell and the retail motherboad is Gigabyte, an OEM SLP cannot be activated legally on a retail motherboard and that is why your installation is counterfeit.

Just filling in a OEM SLP product key is not possible, certain things have to be modified in order to use the product key and these modifiations can cause many problems explained above.
The only way to get rid of these modifications is by formatting the hard drive and clean installing Windows again using a genuine activation.

Besides of this all we also do not provide support for piracy per the Forum Rules so the only option currently to receive support is by performing a format (after backing up your data) and clean install with a genuine activation.
All reputable forums do not support piracy in literally any way someone could think of so going to a different forum to ask for help won't be an option.

FYI, using install media from torrents is a very easy way for criminals to infect your system and do only more harm.
I recommend that you dump the installation media and get a clean one.

Hello,

I have reinstalled Win7, but it seems the problem has still not resolved.

The PC has restarted 3-4 times, since i have formatted and reinstalled win7, this evening.

I have not yet installed SP1 update, since i'm unsure now whether I should proceed doing that, as lot of time has been spent on this issue.

Should I install the updates first or instead upload the new BSOD files.

Kindly suggest.

The details are the same this time. You still have a illegitimate copy of Windows installed. You cannot receive help here until that is solved with a genuine installation meaning that you will likely have to buy a copy of Windows to install.
