Windows 7 ultimate hang problem after update

Hi,
I am having windows7 ultimate version installed on my laptop.
It was working fine.

Then one day i get the pop up window on my screen " updates are available"

I installed the updates.

After that i observe that my laptop gets hang now and then.

I decided to do the system restore.

Then my laptop works fine for some days.

After that i again installed the updates as my blue tooth ( in built) is not detected in the device manager.

But now the same problem of hang up is coming after 10-15 minutes.

the worst part is that now i cannot do the system restore as the dates available for restore are only two which are of the day when i installed the updates.

Is there any way to restore?

Or any patch which can correct the problem.

My blue tooth is still not detected by windows.

help please

No idea what the update was?If you can,open the Windows Update via the start emnu>all programs. On the left you will see View Update History.Click that and see what was installed last.Then go back one page to the main windows update panel and at the bottom left it says Installed Updates. Click that,find the update that was last installed and right click>uninstall.

If the above fails try this:

When starting up,try pressing F8,this should take you to the Windows Repair Console.
From there run start-up repair 3 times.
This might work if it was a windows file.

If that fails open the command promt (Not sure if this will work from repair console?) and type SFC/ SCANNOW. This will also look for errors in system files. and correct them if it can.

Study the installed Updates page in Windows Updates to see which were the ones installed twice. See if you can determine by the Update details which the problem Update might be.

If not, uninstall all suspects. When they reappear as offered Updates, install them one at a time with enough time to monitor performance in between.

You must do this until you determine which is the problem Update, then either hide it permanently or open a case with MS support from the Windows Update website.

EDIT: Dan and were posting at the same time with the same idea. System file checker is another good idea., but Startup Repair is only if you can't start Windows.

Does start up repair not re-install the basic windows components ?
I read somewhere thats what it tries to do,then again,you have more badges

No prob, quite common confusion:

-Startup Repair, run from boot when OS won't start, runs multi-tests, SysRestore and commands to restart the OS. Run up to 3 separate times.

-http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R, an Upgrade over itself run from the desktop, saves programs, files and settings in place while reinstalling the OS and reconfiguring the boot .

Thanks for replies.

Here i just tried to look into the update history.
It is showing a very long list.
Then i clicked the install updates.
Here the updates are bifurcated according to dates.
i.e 1.1.2010
31.12.2009
30.12.2009

then i decided to discard the updates of 31/12 and 1/1/10 as the problem came prior to them.
I noted all the updates of 30.12.2009

They are
KB974431
KB975467
KB976325
KB973525
KB976098
should i uninstall all of them or you can specify anyone in particular.

one thing i forgot to mention is that the windows doesn't get hang for hours if i am watching any movie.

The problem comes when there is some activity of mouse curser.

I use the touchpad of laptop(not external mouse).

for example if i am typing in word, then no problem.

but if start using the function which require select or in general the use of curser such as click the problem comes

the case is same with the web pages,

even while watching movie if i use the touch pad/mouse /curser to forward or rewind then the problem appears

if listening music in winamp then no problem but if i tries to low or up volume then the problem comes

In general something is there which is related to curser movement.

I have latest driver of touchpad from the site of lenovo for windows 7

Should i go for un-install of all updates?

Use System Restore to go back to a date before the update was applied. Much easier.

Do you have a Restore date in System Restore just before the Updates in question?

If not, try removing them one at a time with enough time in between to see if the problem goes away. Then you know which Update it is to discard, or open a Support case with MS on WUD website if you need that Update.

You can see what each Update is by the description in the margin when you highlight it.

One thing I've always done with touchpads is turn off the utility which comes with it because it can be problematic. Access it in the bottom right Systray to study how to turn it off.

Also find listing in msconfig>startup tab and uncheck it there. I uncheck everything there except AV and MS entries as most are freeloaders on RAM/CPU.

Use the guide in my sig to find out your hardware and any necessary drivers. One of those updates may be a conflicting driver.

The problem is solved.
Thanks every one.
Initially i uninstall one by one all the updates and observed.
But no benefit.

Then i started my laptop by continuously pressing F8( as suggested here).

Then there was an option last known good configuration.

I selected that, and now everything seems to be fine.

I have disabled updates.

I will wait till any service pack is issued my MS.

As i feel that updates are issued by MS without thorough testing in their labs.

Bad idea.

These procedures apply to any version of Windows:

Don't install a lot of updates at once - ideally one at a time. This allows for pinpointing a problem if one should arise.

If the update is not rated critical, create a manual Restore Point. Critical updates will create them automatically.
