Hey,

I have recently (After yesterday's Windows Update) gotten a weird problem

As I log in normally to my computer, the Network Sharing Center doesnt respond, nor does the icon down in the taskbar. I have tried the solutions you can find by googling to fix this - none helped.

That is not everything, every application that wants to use internet connection freezes as they try to do so.

I got it fixed temporarily by using the System Restore to restore the system to the point before the Windows Updates were applied, but that is not an option anymore, because the restore point is no longer there.

Windows does not let me uninstall updates in Safe Mode, and as Windows Update accesses internet to do so - it too freezes during a normal login.

Any suggestions?

To make this all even more confusing, my previous posts were made from the Safe-Mode with Networking mode, and now I tried all out of curiosity to just reboot the computer to see if it would work by magic, and it did.

I am now on the normal mode, everything seems functioning again.

I also noticed a weird clicking sound from inside the computer (hard-drive?) while booting up.

I ran HDD Recovery 1.61 today for the 2 hour test, and it did not find any bad sections on my hard-drive, so I doubt its a HDD issue.

Clicking isnt a good sign. could be HD, fan, PSU, try to isolate it before it dies

I tried a few reboots, and there hasnt been any clicking since.

I bought recently a new PSU and GFX adapter, so it might be those causing the sound.

Update:

I traced the clicking sound to my alternative hard-drive, removing it did not solve the problem.

I have gotten it working every now and then, and for a while I thought that disabling the IP-helper service solved it, but I was wrong as the problem occurs again. I also spotted some errors with MAC-addresses earlier on the Event Log, but they havent occured again since, so I do not think that is the cause of the problem either.

Am I really the only one with this problem?
