Solved Windows 7 Update Error

im having a problem with windows 7 pro, i can not use windows update or update mcafee 2010, i get the error 80072ee2 when trying to use the built in windows update, mcafee times out when trying to update i can not even load a microsoft update page such as this

http://update.microsoft.com/

or this

http://download.windowsupdate.com/

its the same with mcafee's support page when i try to use the McAfee Virtual Technician

ive been trying for a couple of days to fix this error but i can't, ive been in contact with mcafee and they say its a windows update problem and its blocking their updates ( don't know how accurate that it is though )

ive tried clearing out the temp files for windows explorer and firefox, ive tried to disable my firewall.

Ive tried to restore my computer to a previous known non-problem time and its still the same.

Ive tried everything on suggested here

3gig DDR2 400mhz
500gig sata 2 HDD
Geforce 8400GS

Ive also tried uninstalling all Windows 7 updates and its still the same

Ive gone through all these steps listed on this site below, its still the same

Windows Update error 8024402C

ive tried to turn the firewall off and it does not make a difference,
its not just windowss 7 that is affected its also mcafee total
protection 2010 wont update aswell as windows 7


im only running 1 firewall, windows 7 firewall is disabled, and I
use the firewall built into Mcafee total protection 2010

Ive tried to uninstalling mcafee total protection 2010 and then i could not reinstall it, but it made no difference

I've also use sfc /scannow but it found no errors

Any more information or idea's?



it also seems its not just windows 7 updates and mcafee updates, there
is a built in windows trouble shooter which wont download or run due to
this problem

The Conficker worm will block websites from microsoft and mcafee and prevent updates. I have spent some time reading about conficker lately is why it rang a bell.

unninstall mcaffee use windows firewall and just MSE for your AV, reeboot and try connect to updates ?

Ive looked at that information and it mainly states to run scans with a anti-virus program, ive run 30+ anti-virus scans with Mcafee 2010 and everything is clean, I have included another sceenshot with the scan which completed while i was reading the replys as you can see it's come back as clean again ( Mcafee Total protection is only a couple of days without updates I run regular scans on my computer and always keep it upto date with updates from Microsoft and Mcafee )

thank you for finding this information but it does not make a difference with my error, i've done it twice, but when i type the command as instructed proxycfg -d i get the following error.

'proxycfg' is not recognized as operable program or batch file.



i've tried it as proxycfg -d and proxycfg and none work ( as per screenshot below )



This is really starting to bug me now, nothing seems to work, the information Microsoft gives out regarding this error is useless to say the least, i've done everything I can think of to try to resolve this problem, even doing a complete system restore from weeks before I had the problem which did not fix the problem either.

Anybody else got any more idea's on how to resolve this problem.

Thank you everybody for your replys thus far.

Windows 7 Professional seems to be working as normal, and so does Mcafee Total Protection 2010, apart from the problems with the updates

It's not prove.Scanning on allive by using installed security software is not fully credible,please note many viruses can hide perfectly before installed security software or sometimes even deactivate them.Using online scanner or tools i.e malwarebytes is much more credible but a few viruses can hide before such kind of tool too.Installed security soft is good to prevent infection but not to fight with infection in already infected computer.If the world was as simple as you think that nobody would create unconfortable tools to removing trojans or livecd with antivir like DrWeb LiveCD Dr.Web CureIt! —

There is no "proxycfg" command in vista/Windows 7.Instead is command

netsh winhttp reset proxy

Uninstall any anti-virus.

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica] Delete all files and folders in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution[/FONT]

If your having problems with Windows 7 update you can reinstall windows update agent.
How to obtain the latest version of the Windows Update Agent to help manage updates on a computer Scroll down to "How to obtain the latest Windows Update Agent"

well MADxMAX, I have the same error and I hope you're right.

I'm running the scan now and I've already got 2 issues. I'll have to check back after the scan is over. Thanks though to everyone involved in this post for taking your time.
