windows 7 won't boot past "starting windows" screen

Hey yesterday I got some sort of spyware or bug and my computer started acting funny so I turned it off and upon turning it back on I couldn't get it to boot. I've tried all the safe modes, tried booting from the windows 7 dvd to repair or reinstall the os but it won't make it past the starting windows screen. I suspect that the master boot files have been removed or corrupted by the virus (which was called "guo" in my task manager). So I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely agree with Borg and Golden, AV Rescue Disk is the best place to start.

You could try using a rescue boot disk, there is a list of them here:

People have reported problems with the Kaspersky Rescue Disk, so best to choose one of the others.

Have you tried to boot into Safe mode with a Command prompt? Let us know if you can at least get to that point then you can use commands to access your restore points and perhaps do a system restore.

I agree with Borg - give the F-Secure rescue disk a crack (I have tried Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 in the past - its a fail as Borg says, and should no longer be recommended).

If the bootable AV full scan will clean up your HD, then try repairing SYstem Files from DVD/Repair CD Command Line: SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot

If Win7 still won't boot, run Startup Repair repeatedly to see if it will Start.

Startup Repair should automate System Restore but if not try it separately from System Recovery Options.

If all else fails you can copy out your files into quarantine to be scanned with Malwarebytes and your AV with DVD/Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console

Then run full Factory Recovery from boot, or clean reinstall after wiping the HD: Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command
