Hello my laptop doesnot start. I merged my only drives C: and D: together on my laptop using the built in disk management and then it told me to restart the system which I did but now it wont start  After showing the HP logo it shows a black screen with a blinking underscore at the top left of the screen. So can anyone help me?

Exactly how did you merge C and D partitions using Disk Mgmt. There is no merger there. There is also no operation in Disk Mgmt which tells you to restart your PC. So what exactly did you do?

If you resized a partition and it caused Win7 it become unbootable then confirm the Active flag is on 100 mb System Reserved using Mark Partition Active, then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times.

If there is no System Reserved or it won't repair, move the Active flag to C and run the Repairs again.

Otherwise there are other steps here for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to run HP System Recovery (do the minimal Recovery to get rid of the bloatware that ruins Win7) or get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 without the bloatware and useless duplicate utilities.

Well I had nothing on my D drive so I deleted its partition and then extended my C drive and then it asked me to restart

the bootloader may have been corrupted by the merge. use 7 instalation disc, go to system recovery n do startup repair. it should work min most cases, but if not you need to do manual repair.
