My Windows 7 won't update which is strange since I'm admin. I tried to change the settings to allow it, and restart my computer but, still nothing happens.

I also tried to scan for virus's with avast and spyware with MBAM and Spybot, but they found nothing.

Not sure what the problem could be but maybe you guys could help.

Hi, Rokchant.

Is it Windows 7 or Windows XP SP3 that you need help with? The document you attached is not for Windows 7:

Did you try the link I provided?

In all honesty, particularly with Windows 7 64-bit machines, the first thing to do is to try System Restore. More often than not, that fixes the problem since Windows 7 has a much more robust System Restore than XP and Vista.

Another option is to perform a SFC (System File Checker) scan which will check and fix any corrupted files on your system. The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

  • Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
  • Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator.
  • If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue
  • At the command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow (note the space before the backslash)
  • When the scan is complete, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and test to see whether the issue that you are experiencing is resolved.
Edit note: I forgot to ask before. Is there an error code that you get when the updates fail?

That link seemed to fix the problem, thanks for your help.

Didn't know it did that, my first reaction was a trojan but, I'm glad that all it took was a simple fix it program.

Windows 7 wont update

I'm currently having problems updating windows 7 on my computer when restarting my laptop. When it restarts it does a scan disk check and I believe it has a corrupt file. Thus, never finishing the scan or updates. Please help. Thank you.

Jiant2520,

When rebooting see if you can boot into safe mode, let that load up and do a scan on the HD there. You can also insert the Win7 dvd and boot to that and have it load anything that is missing or that might have gotten corrupted on the HD regarding the OS. Hope this helps.
