Your system specs show you having:
HP Pavilion p6532f Desktop PC (originally came with Windows 7 64-bit)
HP G61-408CA Notebook PC (originally came with Windows 7 64-bit)

Are you wanting to go back to Windows 7 in one of them, or are you referring to a different computer?

If you don't need Windows for a specific thing that Linux just can't duplicate, and hate Windows 10, your best move would be to go to Linux. Why take chances with an unsupported system?

Personally, I need Windows for music creation software. Linux just isn't there yet (and may never be). But there are good alternatives for almost everything else in Linux.

So, if you are up to a moderate challenge (it's good for the brain!), I would give Linux a shot. There are light versions that work on very old hardware. The choices are myriad.

michael diemer:
Windows 7 has extended support updates until January 2023.
Using the methods discussed in SevenForums can keep it up to date.
The Windows 7 PC I'm on right now is up to date to December 2020.

Microsoft support means absolute nothing to the end user. Windows 7 continues to work exactly as before and for the foreseable future it'll continue to do so.

It's more of a personal preference. If you don't like Win10, go to Win7. Then the choice of Windows vs Linux is, in addition to preference, what programs do you want to run on them. Linux sometimes lack certain softwares and Windows lacks some others too, so make your choice according to your needs.

Don't let Microsoft or anyone else dictate what happens with your computer.

I have only used a handful of updates if I need them for software or hardware since I ran Windows 98se and guess what? No black hoodie wearing hacker wearing a Guy Fawkes mask™ (Owned by Time Warner) has ever "hacked" my computer or I magically got a virus. You know why? It's all on how you use the Internet and your computer.

Try the following three things:

1) Use the now free Sandboxie for your browser. It's at Github. You'll need the driver package.

2) Scan ALL downloads at Virus Total. Even if you think it's legit and can be trusted. Depending on the file, if there's at least four hits it's probably malware. But it depends on what the file is.

3) Clone your computer on a regular basis. If disaster strikes you can clone back. Just make sure you have the live boot media on USB or CD to do so.

4) If you have a bad habit of visiting the Pirate Bay or other such websites, don't! Unless you're downloading something legit, and/or know what you're doing, you can and will get owned and tea bagged.

5) If you have a Pro version of Windows. Pull up your favorite search engine and learn how to turn off autoplay from Group Policy. That way it'll help stop a malicious payload from a USB stick, optical media or what ever from auto executing. You can turn off autoplay via other ways, but the sure fire way of making absolutely sure it's off is via the Group Policy. I've been doing that since XP Pro.

Great advice F22. In addition, make sure you get rid of Flash Player, if you haven't already. It's EOL in two weeks. But it has been one of the worst security risks as long as it's been in existence. The only time I got hacked (that I know of), I was on a composers forum, which uses Flash. I had put the Linux "Pepper" version on it, since I use Linux for my routine internet surfing. Somebody opened a terminal (which is the Linux version of the Command Line), and was in the process of changing root. IOW, taking over my computer, right in fron ot my eyes. I went to pee or something, when I returned, I saw them typing "chroot" before my very eyes. I shut down immediately and wiped the drive clean. So, everyone, get rid of Flash. NOW.

Softwares isn't a word in English. Software is used for both singular and plural.

Agree with your post. :-)

As a former English major, technically this is not true. there is nothing wrong with pluralizing this word. Any singular word may be pluralized by adding an "s" at the end. what is true is that the word as commonly used is "software," meaning either singular or plural. "Softwares" may sound clumsy to native speakers, but I see no reason to disallow the use of it for non-native speakers. A little slack goes a long way in a multi-cultural world.

It's analogous to octopus or octopuses. Both are correct, but I like to engage and conduct myself in as much of a common sense manner as I can because I feel common sense trumps formal education. They tech you this or that, teach you what to think but not how to think.

It's just that when I hear softwares (which is labeled incorrect according to the red line under the word in my browser), I think that can denote that person's grasp of computing intellectual knowledge. Since software like octopus is both singular and plural, one makes more sense than the other. It goes without saying that in writing you need to chose your words carefully in an effort for reader understanding. For example, I highly doubt there are many books out there that use the word softwares in replace of the word software in its plural form. Now here in the forum writing atmosphere it probably doesn't matter.

Now I don't understand language arts at all, and in fact all of my writing is a best effort. My forte is not English at all. Subjects of the STEM or history subjects are more where I excel at. Though, from all the years of using the Internet, I feel sometimes I can plot people's IQ or common sense on a chart and its Y intercept would tell me their public education was that of a nomenclature that describes fecal matter.

Full disclosure: I dropped out of high school my sophomore year. Went to work as a dirty custodian at a plastic injection molding company. Latter on went to an alternative school where I got my GED and then my high school diploma. Never having stepped foot in a college classroom.
