I'm refurbishing an old laptop, an Asus X5DC. I have put in an old 20GB HDD which was originally taken from an Xbox 360 in the hope to install Windows 7 on it, to which I am getting the error:

Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 1. (Show details)

The details are the following:

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.

Now, the funny thing is, there is no HDD options in the BIOS, only boot priority and I've already seen the recommendations to switch from SATA to AHCI, but there's no option to. I've recently flashed the latest BIOS, too, hoping to resolve the problem.

I have tried multiple good disks but it's not working, I'm not sure what setting is wrong in the BIOS. I have attached the logs from the setup, too.

Test the hard drive with the maker's diagnostics from the Troubleshooting tutorial in my signature picture below.

If it passes diagnostics then start at the top of the steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums .

If you get the error again, run a Full Disk Check from the installer's Command Line on the full-disk partition you created using Diskpart in the tutorial.

While your answer is helpful, I have already attempted this installation with 2-3 known working disks.

Solved: It appears as though the newest BIOS is buggy. Flashed the oldest version and it worked.
