Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The disk may fail soon?

Hi guys.

So I am getting this error (Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The disk may fail soon) when I am trying to re-install Windows on my pc.

I have tried running UbuntU to check for errors on my HD but it seems to just freeze up everytime I try to run it. And i tried to run the WD Diag504.iso for my WD20EARS HD but its telling my I need and earlier version or some crap, but I know that I have the correct version.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as ive been pulling my hair out for about 3 days now trying to figure out whats going on. It just seems to be one problem after another. Just lucky i have a spare laptop to access the internet for info.

Sounds to me like the hard drive is failing. If it's under warranty, contact WD and get a replacement.

Download WD Data Lifeguard bootable CD ISO to burn to CD using Windows Image Burner, boot to run Extended Scan: HD Diagnostic

If this fails use SeaTools for DOS | Seagate burned to CD.

In addition run Disk Check from Win7 installer System Recovery Options Command Line, if necessary formatting a partition first using Option Two here: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

I have tried WD Data Lifeguard bootable CD ISO but it won run, it just comes up WD devices detected but may need an earlier version. Then just says hit any key to continue and takes me to a blank cmd page. Also tried Seagate Seatools but just freezes up and doesnt work either.

Ive also tried formatting a partition first but didnt seem to work either. Still getting the same old error msg.

Then the drive is failed. You've confirmed it with the top two tests there.

Yeah unfortunatly its looking that way. Ill try this Hiren's BootCD and if no luck then im giving up.

By the way its a WDC WD20EARS-00MVWB0 if that helps.

Also whats a good 2T HDD that I should replace this one with. Im not to much up to date on pc hardware as I used to be.

I have always preferred Seagate HDDs ... Check out my system specs for what I am running on my notebook.

I would not use a 2TB hard drive for my main drive. I would use a 250GB or a 500GB hard drive as my main drive and a 2TB drive as a secondary backup drive. Furthermore, I do not store any user files (docx, downloads, zip files, jpgs, gifs, etc) on my Windows 7 drive (Drive C) all I use that drive for is for my OS and all of my programs and or applications and utilities programs. Keep in mind that the more you store (as in user files) on the main drive C: the harder that drive is going to work itself.

Also, I use, daily an automated disk and registry cleaner called Auslogics BoostSpeed 5. It cleans all the "deadwood" out of my registry and my temp folders on a daily basis. It also checks my Windows drive C for critical disk errors and repairs them.

To answer you question: Seagate GoFlex 1.5TB external hard drive. I stopped using Western Digital drives because of the high failure rate, myself.

I would not use the tweaking program Auslogics Boostspeed as it is not suitable for Win7 which is already lean and will not tolerate compound tweaking.

While Auslogics is an excellent company which makes an outstanding Disk and registry defragger, Boostspeed has fallen out of favor with all Win7 experts I know and sometimes presents problems as do all tweaking suites.

I used the Auslogics defraggers for many years until it became apparent that there is a great advantage to a boot time defrag like that flawlessly offered by Puran free boot-time defragger - I also add a full Disk Check and engage it's Intelligent Optimizer feature on the Additional Operations tab. I do these operations roughly quarterly after running the CCleaner Disk and Registry tabs.
