Windows components do not appear in "view installed updates"

I am using Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit. I want to remove IE 11 but when I go to look at Installed updates, only 47 items show. There are updates for MS Office, Adobe, etc., but no Windows updates. I have another laptop with the same OS and I can see the updates on it. Is there some option in Windows update I need to set?

Removal of IE11 is not the real problem here, it's the absence of the windows components. This is a new laptop.

If the machine came with IE11 pre-installed, then it almost certainly cannot be removed.
You'd have to reformat and reinstall using retail media - assuming that your machine actually has a proper Windows 7 COA sticker, and isn't simply a downgrade from Windows 8 Pro.

Thanks for your reply, but removing IE 11 is no longer the issue. Where are my Windows components in case I had to remove something?

Do you have Windows Update set to download and install updates?
Have you done a manual Check For Updates to see if anything new is found?

From the look of the updates showing there, there have been no updates installed for quite some time.
Let's do a few diagnostics

Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-service-scanner/

Right-click on the saved file and select 'Run as Administrator', and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CBA files, for a number of reasons)

I will try your suggestions but let me re-state that I am NOT having a problem with Windows update. If I bring up Windows update and select view update history, there are approximately 140 updates with the last one being May 18 (see image). I just don't see them in installed updates in Programs and Features.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands

Code:
REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2864058_SP1~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1"
REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages\Package_for_KB2864058~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1"

.

post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I don't believe you will ever see all KB xxxxxxx in Programs and Features.

... all 148 Windows Updates (to Dec 2013) still show in my SP1 VM - until the necessary reboot (which the tool didn't bother to warn me about!).
They are still there afterwards - and after another reboot.
So no - they aren't removed from the listing by running Disk Cleanup ;)

Ooops! - sorry, I got carried away:)

The registry query results are normal - at least for that particular update. I was hoping that the Visibility data points had been mis-set somehow.

This is not a problem I've come across before, and I'm trying to work out what the difference is between Windows and other updates that could be triggering this.

Sorry for coming so late about this query. I run Windows Update Cleanup occasionally & it doesn't remove Updates from the Installed Updates list or from Update History.
I did a fresh install of Windows 7 at the end of July 2013 & all the updates since are still shown in Update History & Installed Updates.
Just as a side note, Microsoft Security Essentials Updates are only shown in Updates History, but not in Installed Updates.
